You skipped my whole reason for posting -- it's still a bad idea.

You could make a "plausible lore reason" for allowing your character to fight with tentacle arms and summon Bahamut with a 300 second cooldown. Doesn't make it a good idea.

Besides, you CAN change your skin color...with Fantasia. Which is an option I tend to remember people begging to drop money on when it was pretty much established as a one-shot deal. Which is why, for once, i'm going to call complete BS on the whole "I FEEL RIPPED OFF" crap.

Not everything in a game will make sense, so the fact that it wouldn't make sense is not a valid excuse to keep a feature out of the game.
I don't understand the crisco oil applied to this argument that suggests that a VIDEOGAME that is LORE based somehow has to have its GAMEPLAY components derived completely from 100% logical situations, as if designing such a game were even freaking possible.

No, not everything in a game will make sense, but knowing when to draw the line is the difference between a game with respectable lore and a game where it means nothing as a result. It's about maintaining integrity, and not selling it out so cheaply.

I'd rather there be an item like "Radz-at-Han Tanning Oil" or something that darkens one's skin tone accordingly by 10% for 60 minutes or something similar, maybe grant a 10% chance of sunburn?

Having the Aesthetician completely change someone's skin color just seems bizarre, especially since such a feature could go way beyond simple tanning and instead go into a full pigment alteration, something that is very noticeably unnatural. Fantasia already covers that unnaturalism by imbuing the drinker with the courage to transform themselves into whatever they wish.

@Edellis, you're acting like it's a HUGE stretch of the imagination that people in a fantasy realm could change their skin pigment.

What exactly is "not a good idea" about this suggestion?

Fitting it into the game from a lore perspective.

Huh...? So lore is respectable, as long as it gets only broken for real cash, because otherwise it's sold out too cheaply? Throwing lore out the window for a price is A-okay, in your opinion?

Fantasia existed long before the Aesthetician did and was explained lore-wise long before it was ever made available for sale with real-life cash (which, FYI, was due to an insane demand by the playerbase who started the infamous "FANTASIA OR RIOT" thread which had hundreds of pages, many more upvotes, and a presence the devs couldn't ignore).

Lore-wise, Fantasia gives an individual the courage to transform themselves into their true, inner selves. The Aesthetician does not have that kind of power, regardless of how he boasts about it. He has the power of scissors, combs, and a make-up kit. That's it. I mean, you might as well walk up to any barber in real life and say "Hey Freddy, make me Asian today."

If you want to get a tan? Ask for a way for you to get a tan like, I dunno, make the lounge chairs in Mist interactable and, after a few seconds of lounging, boom. You get a "Tanned" buff that darkens your current skin color for an hour or something. That'd make sense. Asking a glorified beautician with DBZ-level speed and finesse to do something a beautician traditionally cannot do in the first place or trying to grasp at straws isn't the way to make it work.

I think this is a good ideas. Especially if you only want to changed your skin color. Different lighting change your color skin, it hard to get the skin color you want. It make sense if you only want to change your skin color and not your whole character and race.

But knowing SE, this probably will never happens. They are making too good of money on Phantasia Potion. It is probably their most profitable Cash Shop items. Just be glad we don't have to paid for cash shop to change our Hair Colors, Makeup, etc. lol.

Lore goes out the window when you can go to sleep (log off) as one race, and wake up (log back in after fantasia) as a different race and/or sex.

Using the argument "changing skin coloer doesn't fit lore". Then explain to me how my previous sentence fits lore.

Changing skin tone fits lore more than changing race and or sex. You could say Lore does not require "Garlean tech". We have Alchemists making "magic potions". They brew up a potion that you apply to your skin or imbue that changes pigmentation. There, explained.

I wish we could change at least eyecolor, that wouldn't be so strange after all we can change our haircolor too.

Hairstyle and hair color is a lot easier to change than eye color. With hair color, it's just applying very special kinds of dye, which can ultimately be found in nature and synthesized using alchemy.

Changing eye color would be more akin to a medical procedure than something that our beloved aesthetician can do. I mean, unless you intend for him to dip his scissors in dye and start poking people's eyes out.

I never thought I'd see so many people against the idea of something being added for free. Huh.
