    Tempered Will on Shiva's Permafrost

    Location: Akh-Afah Amphitheatre (Extreme)
    Date: 11/5/2014
    Time: Approx. 8pm EST
    Encounter: Shiva
Abilities involved: Tempered Will executed by a player Paladin, while Permafrost is executed by Shiva
Problem: Inconsistent in whether or not tempered will blocks the slippery status effect from Permafrost

The Paladin ability 'Tempered Will' seems to have an extremely inconsistent success rate on preventing the slippery effect from Shiva's permafrost ability in either HM or Ex. The timing of clicking the buff doesn't seem to matter. I had a few successes but can't seem to recall what I did specifically to replicate it. My successes were when I knew little about the fight, so I probably clicked it while I saw her casting Permafrost.

In my attempts to replicate it, I have tried activating tempered will 5 seconds in advance (right after clock pattern bombs in Ex mode, when the floor got slippery I had 5 seconds remaining on Tempered Will). This was not successful--I still slid around. I have tried activating it during her cast bar, which would make the buff land before the slippery debuff is applied to my status effects. This was not successful. I have tried activating it well after the slippery debuff is in my status effects (about a second after the floor turns icy) and had no success. I tested in both HM and Ex with repeated failures, though my only successes have been in Ex mode.

Please make the buff either not work at all, or improve its consistency. If anyone's wondering, I tried this repeatedly in ex mode because I'm OCD about positioning as a tank... I feel that forcing my entire team to move, instead of repositioning the boss myself, is poor play. I've only been able to reposition her in time when I succsesfully pulled off Tempered Will to block the slippery effect.

I've heard that Warriors can root themselves with holmgang to successfully reposition her but haven't seen if it's true. Anyone want to report on that?

Shouldn't that be saved for the times when tanks get the blue mark? Permafrost = free dps time really, nothing else to really worry about.

Yes, but it seems that preventing the damage prevents the knockback, so tempered will isn't my only tool to deal with that. I've been using cover on my teammates and that seems to block the knockback for them. Stoneskin/adlo seem to do the same since, when I initially got targeted by it, I didn't react to it at all and experienced no knockback (my healers carried me :P). But even if you do nothing, she doesn't have anything dangerous in her lineup where her positioning matters. On the other hand, if she pulls out her bow right after permafrost, things can get a bit hectic and I can make that transition smoother if I can tempered will.

Debates are for GD though, just looking for information on whether this is intended or not. I know my methods are inefficient, but I'm looking to make my own strategies rather than follow a guide to the T.

In this vein there have been several occasions I've tried to go ice skating to gap close after blue and dont slide. Has happened with or without nulling all dmg.

Interesting, so this is without using tempered will at all? Did you achieve this by moving a couple seconds after the floor frozen (the safe way to do it without being frozen)?

I roll drg no tempered will to speak of. I cannot confirm if I was moving prior to permafrost or not. (Before we get the just us jumps to gap close crowd, I know, and I haven't been using them specificly to try figuring out what is going on with this exact issue.)

Thanks for the information Lollie. I think you may have indeed been moving before permafrost hits because all of my attempts have involved myself waiting to move. I'll see if I can reproduce it and post back.
