We have had burning threads discussing the removal of collision detection because making running through the fields comfortable was supposedly too difficult otherwise and you're talking about dynamic environments? Walking on a MOVING dragon?
More than half a year after release had to pass to get a standard working UI and in the videos you showed people use static cannons as if it was Battlefield, with projectiles flying through the air and hitting enemies as big as mountains in the distance....
Years will pass before we get something remotely close to that in FFXIV, if ever. I simply don't believe the team and engine can accomplish that.
The "higher complexity of ship battles" intended is probably a higher number of enemy waves and enemy types involved, requiring some strategy to be defeated efficiently, but i seriously doubt it will be something more complicated than the FFXI version.
