Samurai

Samurai is the job I was looking for from the start of ffxiv and now that they have announced the dark knight class Im wondering if that will be the only new tank for next year?, I am playing as a ninja for now but haven't givin up hope that a samurai class will be introduced as a tank to patch 3.0 what are your thought on samurai ? Do you hate ? Are you anticipatibg it like me do you think it will be a tank ?

Samurai tank is an awful idea. My prediction is it will be the new dps in 3.4 if the trend continues. Samurai is meant to dps not tank.

Now that DRK is confirmed as a tank i can tell you with 90% certainty that SAM will be dps just like FFXI except this time they will make it a dps on purpose which only makes me more excited at what they will turn out with.

Its not that there is a lack of tank jobs... its just a lack of people who want to take control...

Yeah! I almost gave up playing ffxiv when I learned there was no samurai
BUT, enjoying my gld so much!

I think they will put one more healer and one more mage-dps.
Then, it will be:
3 tanks, 3 melee, 3 mages, and 3 healers.

Personally I am hoping it will be a tank, it was going to be one in FFXI, they were making it a parry tank, but the system made it difficult and so they made it a DPS (or so I heard)

A parry based tank could be quite interesting, if the game can make it work.

Samurai should've been released as a tank class along with Ninja DPS in 2.4, imo. Goes along with Doman far east culture, and these queues wouldn't be 80+ minutes.

No, DRK tank is an awful idea. Even on XI, Samurai had Heigan, Mind's Eye, and some of their gear even had parry on it. I've OT'd on my SAM many times, pre-Abyssea. DRK were as squishy as a clothie with no damage mitigation. They were pure DPS, sick DPS if played right. Dark Knight...the DPS class iconic for sacrificing their health to do a shit-ton of damage to you.

Yea, In XI my DRK was pretty epic, expecially on crawlers ^^ crazy big numbers. If SAM were to be a tank, I agree that it should have been implemented this patch to accompany NIN.

The bottom line is that anything we write about Samurai in FFXIV is pure speculation. It hasn't been discussed, and has barely been hinted at. If past developer hints mean anything, they mean that it'll come when it comes, and it will disappoint everyone who has been speculating wildly.
