Too bad there's no story mode for people who want the story but don't want the frustration, or the group time management struggles that go with it, right?

If it dictated the main story it would be accessible to all players.

Thanks. PMs are a good idea.

And yes, not everyone can or has to be great at their class. But it is concerning when an ilvl100-something DPS class somehow averages less damage than a comparably geared WAR (In fending accessories) in Defiance.

    What would you do?
The best thing you can do is to tell them plainly. It helps if you have experience with the Job they are DPSing on, but you can ask them what their rotations and priorities are. Its surprisingly easy to be bad at DRG and MNK. Knowing the rotations and priorities is more important than having good gear.

You cannot execute that command while bound by duty.

...no seriously why is that even a thing? If this is during a dungeon run, there's no way to word it out other than party chat if they're not in your FC or linkshell.

I know, but its more for afterwards.
There's no point in me talking to them over LS since the LS isn't just us two. lol
It wouldn't make the matter any more private than party chat.

I think it would depend on what content you are doing but in general keep in mind you have no idea who is on the other side of that keyboard/controller. For instance, My 9yo son plays with me sometimes as well as plays on his own. He's not a spectacular player but he plays to have fun, I have seen a few other players be complete assholes about how he "plays". I would say, regardless of the content, be tactful.

Hey "player x" I noticed you seem to be using "these" moves quite often, did you know you could do much more DPS if you used "these" moves instead? I've played that Job quite a bit before so if you like I could help you out. Might make things go a little smoother.

Also keep in mind not all players have a keyboard so typing might be slow to the point they dont want to even bother saying anything. It may not be they are ignoring you but worry that trying to carry a conversation would be time consuming when the time could be better used plowing through the instance.

I get the impression you are asking this because it has happened in some high level content, like Coil or the Extreme Primals. Maybe ask if they are new to the fight and would like some pointers. The bottom line, be helpful. Try not to be judgmental or confrontational. The community can be better and it all starts with the way "you" handle situations. If the player you are trying to help becomes confrontational and belligerent, just apologize and ignore them. You tried to help, you were pleasant and polite and they have declined your advise. At this point, further assistance will only frustrate and anger both sides.

    Just my 2gil.

If you're just playing for the main story then I have no gripe with that. Just don't expect the same hospitality when you decide to hop on severe DPS checks like Ramuh EX. Or any trial/endgame content (Ifrit EX, Titan EX, Shiva EX, etc) for that matter, especially if you're THAT GUY.

Depends on why they are considered being bad. If it's their rotation but they're using all their skills..then don't worry about it. If it's something that they're just flat out missing? Then there's cause for concern. I've had tanks refuse to use flash or use the last combo move thinking it always activated. SMN's who put on Bio and just Ruin Spam forgetting the others, white mages who stay in DPS mode trying to heal me..these are things you should point out if it gets bad. At least you're taking their feelings into consideration.

Now things not to worry about during that run..right then and there, is if they're not doing it in the rotation you believe it should be, and like others said talk to them on the side. My old FC actually made you train with other players until you could perform to their standards. If you said you wanted to be a Monk they would get their Monk and you would have to get to their DPS checks or Rotation before you could gear up...but maybe that's a bit harsh.

To be totally honest, without knowing the exact situation, if they are bad at the job they are playing and they have an oversensitive attitude, its probably not worth your time and effort.

I had two players in my 2.0 / 2.1 static that were god awful and would react very negatively to any sort of critique or attempt to adjust their rotations to increase their DPS. We dealt with being stopped dead in progression for 2 months and then I finally cut ties. We made more progress with random PUGs the next few weeks and haven't talked to them since.

I figure the maximum amount of time I will spend in this game is a few years - its not worth wasting months on garbage players with bad attitudes.

If im pugging in Duty Finder i wont say anything, because i will never see the player again.
If its a static/guild member, and its hindering the progess, im letting the raid leader know.
Im no ones babysitter, and its not a big deal to find guides, if you cant pull it off yourself.
