What is Square saying to Smn about spell speed?

Why are you casting Ruin II constantly? Cast it once for blind, then use Ruin till the blindness wears off.

Ruin II's blind effect is really irrelevant. The reason is that Ruin II is used before using Off-GCD abilities (like Fester, Aetherflow, Rouse, etc) and that's alongside using it during movement phases. Optimally, you would want to use it whenever possible but as it stands now, you have to show restraint when using it else you go OOM pretty fast. Summoner is the DPS job that will run out of ressource the fastest and by a decent margin at that. We have to cut our single target damage, which is not even the highest, to not go oom yet jobs like Black Mage have a theoratically infinite MP pool AND a higher potential damage in both single target and AoE.

I found the interview Kamifubuki mentioned where Yoshida expounded on the expanded role of skill speed in the expansion.http://www.novacrystallis.com/2014/0...naoki-yoshida/ Mind you, he only talks about skill speed, but it isn’t so much of a stretch to think that this includes spell speed. Maybe it’s another interview? If spell speed is suppose to have an expanded role in the upcoming expansion, wouldn't it make sense to spell speed stuff on our gear then, not now? It's useless for SMN "now"... Some people from reddit are calling patch 2.4 a “silent nerf” to SMNs, relative to BLMs http://www.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/commen...bis_24/clspyw0. Since 2.4 is spell-speed-everywhere and BLMs use all stats on caster gear whereas SMNs use just 4 of the stats, its a “buff for BLMs and a nerf for SMNs”. I don’t know how I feel about this. BLMs were nerfed pretty hard in PVP, but PVP isn’t everything.

I suspect a subtle nerf as well, considering how heavily SMN were favored in endgame this past raid cycle. That had more to do with the nature of the encounters, though, rather than the job being OP.

Except this is the gear we will be taking into the expansion. Makes sense to me to have us prepared with proper gear when the expansion drops.

Except that if the game keeps the same gearing pattern that it has followed thus far, the gear will be replaced extremely quick comes the expansion.

I wish we could get an answer from SE about this. We need to keep these threads open to talk about it. The next time we have an opportunity to ask questions at a live letter we need to flood the message boards about this.
