    The thing is that there is a plethora of reasons why Spell Speed is terrible for Summoners:

    1. Spell Speed doesn't affect the number of DoTs tick. They will always tick once every 3 seconds no matter how much Spell Speed you have.
    2. Spell Speed doesn't affect pets as confirmed by Square Enix therefore making the stat even more useless. Here's the source for the statement:Source:

    The itemization for Summoners in 2.4 is extremely bad. I just hope that they make the stat somewhat viable comes Heavensward because so much of it when it's so useless makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.

    It wouldn't be a problem if SMN had better MP restoration. Aetherflow and Energy Drain doesn't cut it when it comes to final coil. Both abilities just don't restore enough MP to keep us going, causing us to now rely on Mage's Ballad more than ever. A good SCH or WHM will almost never run out of MP and BLM has essentially infinite, assuming they don't screw up their rotation.

    Either Energy Drain needs a buff or our main DoTs and Ruin II need their MP cost cut down. Miasma II/Shadow Flare should keep their cost the same for what they do. Having to heavily rely on BRD and Ethers sucks hard.

    If I had to pick, I'd butcher the MP cost of both Ruin and Ruin II (both ruins because II technically cannot be lower than I and in my opinion, Ruin II should cost what Ruin I does) and lower by ~10% the cost of DoTs.

    Why are you casting Ruin II constantly? Cast it once for blind, then use Ruin till the blindness wears off.

    The thing I don't understand is why do BLM and SMN share all of their gear? The DPS classes each have their own left sided gear. Even the new kid on the block (ninja), got its own set of gear despite also using DEX as a main stat. It doesn't make any sense. I've talked to many different melee characters about it and generally DRG and MNK have similar preferred stat builds. Much more similar than BLM and SMN. I hope they address this issue in 3.0 when they add a token system.

    I have a strong suspicion that Spell Speed/Skill Speed will be buffed in the future to include HoTs and DoTs.

    BLMs love spell speed because most of their damage comes from continuous hard casts. To put it simply, being able to cast more Fires over the course of a fight matters far more than being able to squeeze in additional (read: unnecessary) DoT casts.
