It becomes impossible to heal thru those shots once the boss has enough stacks. In reality, Madison is more of a DPS awareness check than a heal check. With a good party, a healer can actually stay in cleric stance 90% of the fight. It's up to the DPS to stop the shooting as soon as it starts. Dealing damage to him is what stops it. Even when adds are up, DPS must IMMEDIATELY shift focus and start hitting Madison once he pulls out his musket. Only after he stops should they continue killing the adds.
I (SCH) just Stoneskin everyone whenever I have the time. Shots or no shots. I had some trouble with the leg-grabbing mobs but never with the good captain's shots.
I think he does that shot straight after whenever he jumps at somebody. That's how I knew to ready an adlo.
I don't know if it's because my stoneskin prevented all damage but he kept shouting how impossible it was that he was missing all his shots.
what I do is swiftcast>stoneskin>regen the target of the musket shots and focus all my healing on them. Use divine seal. You'll have an easier time if you are a scholar because of the shields, but I guarantee it will still be rough. In the end, it's up to the dps to handle this because if they aren't stopping him, you will reach a point you simply cannot keep up.
If you try to fail and succeed, which have you done?
Yeah it's a rough DPS awareness check and even DPS check in itself. Though I think it should stay that way. It's good training - I'm thinking it might be a trail of some sort to see if you can output enough DPS for some endgame stuff. Same for the second boss in Quarn.
I mean the mechanic itself is from mog ex. DPS to interrupt./now waiting for heal to interrupt
Yeah it's a DPS intelligence check. It's not that bad till near the end, when add are up and he's pew pewing away.
<Insert inspirational quote here>
If your DPS are having trouble stopping the gunfire, let them know that the gunfire always happens immediately after he dashes at someone. You can also throw out a Fluid Aura on him too for good measure.
The dash is also a good indicator for you to pay attention and get ready to heal just in case.
Keep stoneskin/succor up on yourself and the dps. If you can mitigate the damage he takes zero stacks.
On my scholar I try and conserve my Aetherflow stacks so I can throw a quick Lustrate on whomever is getting shot near the last phases of the fight. I also try and keep the Succor shields up as much as possible. I've been known to throw up a Sacred Soil as well, but that depends on how you're sitting with your stacks. You're mileage may vary,
Realistically, this fight is pretty easy to heal up to the final phases, when the buff he gets allows him to just blow people away.
Think of it like Mog EX when the WHM or BLM moogle begins casting Flare/Holy and DPS has to do enough damage to stop it.
