Half my FC was hit with lag last night. I experienced rubberbanding in the open world. :/ (We're on a JP server and not everyone affected lives in the US.) I just figured it was the usual post-patch hiccuping.

    Let's put it this way:

If it was the servers and purely on SE's end.

No. One Would have a smooth gaming experience - Not. A. Single. Person. So if most of your players are in-game, playing and not even complaining about the lag...that kind of throws SE and the servers/datacenter out of the equation as being the biggest factor.

We already know the issues lies inbetween you (player) and the datacenter. Aka, Level3.net being one of the biggest issues that affects not just XIV, but numerous other MMOs and even non gaming services.

I haven't had a single issue with anything lag wise, mind you I haven't ran the newest of new content, but ST, fates, general walking around smelling flowers has been fine..

Its the internet provider not the Game.

Even this isn't an entirely true statement. The amount of factors that could cause lag are many. ISP throttling, CDN throttling, poor netcode, equipment specs, etc. The point is, there has been 0 proof that this is on SE's end. And when asked, nobody can provide any besides "well it lags and other games don't". Which isn't proof. Be accurate when speaking, or you run the risk of creating a misconception/fallacy.

Fair enough... I've never had issues... well I got errors when the game first launched, but they did fix those. I just think dismissing the issue as "the internet" is a bit cavalier. I have certainly seen issues in other games that hit some groups hard be addressed when the company took steps to improve things by adding datacenters, moving things, etc. This was after internet "PhDs" diagnosed the problem as an "internet issue" and of course tried to explain the game company was completely blameless.

I guess I am a skeptic of such internet "experts". Also, the claim that no one would have a smooth gaming experience if it was on their side is un-provable conjecture. There have been plenty of cases where game companies resolved issues on their side that affected SOME players. Arbitrary blanket statements like this are what make me question validity of comments and motives.

WTFast has helped my connection enough to make paying the $6 monthly fee worthwhile but I'm still getting 90ks and 2002s regularly. I guess that's just the way it's going to be. I'm not even that far away from the servers (Chicago suburbs).

Thought I was being accurate stating its not the game?

Far as I know, many people use dish, Comcast, at&t uverse, or possibly even some obscure company that is located in that specific location only kind of thing. All I am saying is that I find it so damn funny that people blame a game for lag when other people playing the game have no issues. Thus it isn't the game.

I agree that it is isn't the "game", I'm saying it goes both ways, as far as explaining what the issue is. You do not want to break it down into Game vs. ISP, because those are not the only 2 factors. In reality, many ISP's are actually not the root cause, but the backbone CDN's like Level3. In my case, Verizon is actually the issue, because they own their own CDN, alter.net.

This type of quality service is the norm. Nothing is being done nor do I think anything will be done.

On the bright side, EU SERVERS! \o/
