melding materia to high level item

i need to meld a materia to a level 50 bow for the relic quest; im a level 20 carpenter and dont see myself hitting 50 anytime soon.
i assume there is a way to let another player do it for me right? do i just trade them the bow and materia and they trade it back when its attached? is this common/safe? or is there a better way to do it

there's a request materia meld option when you select player.

It's completely safe and the player cannot take the item from you....can only attach the materia and the item will go back to you.

thanks, i never noticed that option before. now that i see it though, the option to request meld always seems to be greyed out. do they have to be in my party or something?

no, the person needs to be a crafting job in order to do the request. Just shout for the type of crafter you need, and when he/she is in the proper gear, do the request

but yeah just shout in main city looking for carpenter to meld ur bow n should get a few whispers instantly :3
