Devs already commented on this that implementation of LS and FC are different and LS is basically a chat channel that does not store any information like log history etc, so it's not possible to add last login time for LS (without reworking whole LS system).
I'm all for it, as long as we can turn off getting the MotD on login, or make it so the message only forces itself into the chat log if it's new. Getting hit with potentially 9 MotDs plus server announcements on every log in will get old real quick otherwise.
But I'd be really surprised if we saw it even in 3.0's life cycle. Almost every time SE discusses UI features in any depth, they talk about resource strain and how tightly everything already fits. It's why the buff/debuff display is so limited, it's why Focus Target took so long for PS3, it's why we don't have a text-list inventory option. They've said specifically that they want to keep server strain to a minimum with LSes.

I was thinking of just having a short message box that would be above members list for each linkshell, that way it's there every time someone checks on status of that linkshell, instead of only flashing once at login.
Except that info is already stored on servers and displayed on FC members window. It's already available, no need for linkshell to store anything, just extract it.

And what to do with people who are not in FC? As far as I understand this info stored as FC channel info - no FC = no info.
I'm all for this. I honestly wish we could view a player's last login time in a Linkshell... For someone with OCD, I would hate to imagine needing to break a Linkpearl and re-form a Linkshell every 6 months (give or take) simply to maintain active players. Despite a Linkshell being a chat channel, some people NEED to know who is actually using the Linkshell and who isn't.
I agree that having a last login time would be beneficial for Linkshells. They're for chatting sure, but you've still got to maintain it.
Agreed. I've posted lengthy posts about this in the past, and would still like these options. I never received a response, but I hope you do. I understand it may not be easy to implement, but if demand is high enough, maybe they would look into it more.
For those saying an LS is just a chat-channel, you are not playing the game to it's full extent. LS' are used for FC alliances, Hunts (not so much anymore), friends outside of FC, World Bosses, Raid groups, FC leaders, and RP. There's probably more, but I'm drawing a blank. Point is, LS' have many purposes beyond a social chat. If you make a friend or 2 during a pug, and they are close with their FC but would still like to keep in touch for other pugs, LS' are perfect (especially since you can't receive /tells in Duty, so FL is kind of moot). FC's are limiting in that you can only have 1. You can have many LS', and that's their biggest benefit for the social part of this game, which everyone is always playing. That's how mine has always worked, and we have more members in the LS than the FC.
but then LS would be FC o: ( no other difference )
