I do that too. 9999 is just an untidy way of saying 10000, so I buy the one that was listed first to be fair to the seller (and because I like round numbers). Undercutting by 1 gil is the market equivalent of a kill steal (a "sell steal"?) If I've made a seller happy then I feel good about it. I'm glad I'm not the only one.

I like round numbers cos they don't make me think and they leave my balance looking tidy. People can sell at whatever price they want, and I just buy if I want to. Paying one gill more is just the rebel in me not wanting to do what people expect. That and thinking that I may have made someone happy who thought they had been undercut already (who for all I know could be a bot operator). I just NPC everything I don't need - it's quicker.
