Don't be fooled by youtube vids!

I had recently to deal with some FC mates that wonder why they are not able to pass some encounters, even they had made research about strats and all.

Well, it needs say a couple things about the vids you can see on the interwebb:
    1. People on the vid is NOT geared as you! If you know gears (Glamouring excluded), you can see that people is most of the times in their full High Allagan. When you see a mechanic drops their HP to 50%, most likely if you repeat same mechanic with you and healers in your i80, your encounter stops there. They knows the fight and may happen they just ignored some mechanic because they can. They, not you. So take vids as reference to what happens and when, but with a grain of salt.
    2. Who is making the vids have a top-class internet. Me too, if stay in AOEs HALF the time the guy stay in, I am hit/slided/wathever. Just be aware that you see other players move later but it is just visual lag, they moved early than you see. This lag does not apply to the guy that is recording the vid, if you see him on the plume 0,5s it is because he really was 0,5s in the plume and not being hit. If you stay on the plume 0,5s and get hit, it just means his internet pwns yours.

Then, watching a vid does not makes you ready. You need do the actual fight to learn how really the fight is. The best experience is do them with your FC, so you will avoid all that rage that comes on pugs with peple expecting all pro there. My 2c.

Don't forget the biggest variable which is the actual manhours spent in an encounter. You learn by doing.
Those people who you see on videos have easily spent 10 hours on a current endgame encounter.

The fact that t13 was killed 5 days after the patch with ilevel110 gear stands as testament to the fact that gear doesn't play as big of a part as most people think it does.

With regards to internet connection, people cry lag all the time, even on streams and videos when you can obviously see in it that they are being hit and their reactions are simply too slow.
Personally I play with a ping of 150-200ms and encounter none of these issues. You don't need "top class internet" and 99% of the time you can only blame yourself for being hit.

Most video guides just show you the mechanics of the fight and they all try to explain to the best of their understanding of the mechanic. The video guides are there to help you prepare for the fight so that you know what's coming up and what to do in that situation. However, they are not substitutes for actual experience for the encounter and can only take you so far. Personally, the video guides help with those who have problems visualising the battle from a written guide. It's all on preference. Some prefer to learn by watching, and some prefer to learn by reading. All in all, I think it's wrong to say that video guides are bad. They are informative just as written guides to some extent.

Guides are not bad, instead kudos to the people who take the time to make them for everyone else.

I'd just pointed out to not be discouraged by the failing even you following the guides. It is part of the learning process but someone were putting on them more weight than needed.

crafted full melded ilevel110 gear, that is better than your standard ilevel110 gear.

Well guides can be both good an bad. Sadly my experience is that it's mostly bad because people watch them then stick to exactly what they saw in the guides.

My group always goes in blind and learns and understands the fight to as far as we can go(this seems to confuse some people though).
If we are hitting a wall after that we will check a guide or two or ask our LSs for tips - if we clear we might check a guide to see if there is anything we might improve.

It's the understanding of what a mechanic does that means you can always adapt to the fight and not expect the fight to conform to you and your startegy.

And yes it takes hours and hours of wipes at times to master the mechanics to the point of actually getting through.

I guess those members must be really terrible at the game if they got that far and suddenly forget it's just a summary of events to look out for during their own encounters. To be used as a guide
