Returning Player, How Should I Gear?

Returning Player here. Before I left extremes had just released and my group had twin on farm. I ran as an i90 WAR/PLD.

I've done a bit of forums scouring and it seems my best option might be to spam run the new wing of CT since there isn't a weekly cap on loot and they are i100?

Kinda sad to have to replace all my gear.... took a while to hit i90 :/

Yes, you should spam Syrcus Tower for Ilv100 gears but mostly for the oils/sands that drop there so you can be Ilv110 asap

If you were here during the last couple of patches it would have taken you a while to get to i110. It's always faster to play catchup to the previous high-tier.

Syrcus tower is a good option but I would also recommend unlocking and doing the Daily Roulettes as you get a hefty amount of soldiery per day. Since you probably have missed several dungeons they also give bonus soldiery so it will pay off to get them done.

Your best option is indeed to farm Syrcus Tower for any ilvl 100 gear drops while also lotting on oils/sands that drop at the end, make sure you lot on all of them. Buy soldiery gear in Mor Dhona and unweather them to ilvl 110 with the sands (left side) and oils (right side). Everyone in the party will undoubtedly be lotting sands/oils though so they may be difficult to get.

Because of this, when you're around ilvl 100 I'd start looking into Second Coil of Bahamut. The lockout for it is gone as well and Turns 6, 7, and 8 are not very intensive for the main tank you just need to meet the accuracy cap which is 515 in Turn 9 (it increases for each turn but that is the highest you would need). You should be able to farm those much quicker than a Syrcus Tower run as most of the fights only take about 10 minutes to complete with a competent group. I would use that to push any holes in your gear set up to 110. You can find which items drop where here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets...#gid=884937690

Another change in the school of thought for tanking as well, depending on when you left, is that a lot of tanks will run with DPS accessories. I try to keep DPS accessories and tank accessories depending on the content. Turn 9 and the new Final Coil fights will probably be safer with tank accessories, anything else should be just fine with DPS accessories. All in all, I would not worry too much about getting the BiS items from the previous patches. As long as you can hit the acc cap for all turns, and the new turns, just focus on getting your ilvl to 110.

An additional thought in regards to your weapons, to get the unweathered 110 weapons you would need 1300 soldiery, an unidentified allagan tomestone, and a sands of time to unweather it. If you can get your other gear high enough that you can get into some of the new Shiva EX groups and learn that fight, she drops 110 weapons. This would probably be a much faster way to get the weapon as long as you can get decent enough gear in other slots to enter and win the fight.

Thanks for the responses!! I've been trying to run ST but the que is pretty long... even as a tank. Ran 5 times last night and only got the chest :/

I'll have to unlock everything so I can run all the dailies. Seems so daunting though.. All the gear required!

You got a major piece, 250 soldiery which is about halfway for most of the soldiery pieces, and 75 poetics stones which are used for level 120 gear. I'd say you did fine. Remember you have no competition for tank gear so if you get lucky and get a string of drops you benefit immensely. Like I had mentioned most of the dungeons and any primal battles (barring Shiva) that you missed will give you a large amount of bonus soldiery for your first time and it adds up.

In my opinion, you only need to run as many as ST runs until you have 5 sands and 5 oils and 1 UTS. 5 sands are used to upgrade the weapon and 5 oils are there for the accessory. Sands and Oils can also be obtained via Hunts, though that is a long way to go. Then just purchase a whole set of Sol gears and accessory by using Soldiery tombs. It is easier to farm soldiery in regular Duns than in a ST and the queue, as a tank, is always almost instants. 1300 Sol tombs + 1 UTS are needed for the weapon and 1 sand to Unweathered the weapon, same for any Weathered Gears. Don't bother to run ST just for the gear because at the end of the day, you will never use them, like at all. You can do all this within a week, with playing time about 5 hours per day. And you will have ilv 110 set and ready for t6-9 before being able to enter t10-t13.
