Looking to enjoy the world of Eorzea ٩(◕‿◕。)۶ but holy gold sellers, batman

    PART 1:
Hey everyone, I'm Naustix and I want to give FFXIV a real go!

I bought the game at release, but at the time I was just starting university and time just wasn't on my side. As a result I only played for the first month and really all i did was FISHING but I really enjoyed it as a quality collectible mini-game where I haven't enjoyed a solid fishing game in a long time <3

Now I'm back, excited for the expansion- and looking to spend a lot more time into a world that I haven't even explored yet.

But man, I browsed for a little bit and hate to beat the horse- but gold sellers, man.

    PART 2:
Now- I've played MMOs, I've also been to historic gold mining town scattered across the US. And all those put together doesn't add up to the amount of gold sellers I've seen so far having come back to the game, this blows my mind.
For a game that you have to subscribe to, how is this a thing- and to such a severe degree? I play a LOT of Guild Wars 2, and that game doesn't even have a subscription and have seen just a handful of gold selling.

I truly cannot wrap my mind around how there's so many.

I post this in hopes of someone being able to explain it- because I've taken a few economics classes and this beats me completely. I'm also posting this in hopes that someone has found a way to mitigate it. Is there a way to block all whispers? Is there a where to blacklist and account rather than just a character? Help a new out, and I'll be happy to thank you for your time

    PART 3:
I've been playing for about a week now, I'm a lvl 28 arcanist on Goblin (NA) but wouldn't mind transfering to a better server.
I'm also streaming the whole journey of learning the game at www.twitch.tv/naustix and would love to see some fellow adventurers pop in and say 'Hi' <3

    Cheers~

The forum only checks for that 1,000 character limit on posts when first submitting them. If you want to post something longer, you can start by posting part of it, then use "Edit Post" to add in the rest. There's no length restriction when editing a post.

    A couple ways:
    1) Use "/busy" to set your online status. This blocks all /tell messages, party invites, and I think Friend requests.
    2) Edit your chat log settings (it's under Character Settings somewhere, but I'm not in-game at the moment to check where), removing "/tell" from the list of channels to display. You can also just remove the sound that goes with it if you want.

Of course, both options have drawbacks if you ever want to actually use tells to converse with anyone, and /busy has drawbacks if you want to join groups, but at least you can play without being interrupted with all that spam. (People have frequently requested options for just restricting who can send you /tells, like Friends and FC-mates only, but so far, we're stuck with all or none.)

    Part 1: Welcome back, mate!

Part 2: Thats because, at present time, ffxiv population > gw2 population, I think.
There goes one tip: Don't block whispers. Someone may want to send a /tell to you with invites, dgn tips, etc. You can right click /teller name (in message box) and select "add to blacklist". Done. This bot won't bother you anymore. Gold sellers sending tell is not THAT big deal, anyway (at least, in behemoth).

Part 3: Behemoth have a high population. Sometimes I still get that queue message. Of course, maybe there is some other server more crowded.

I must say english is not my primary language, so if you find some grammatical or syntax error, please tell me and I will edit my post. Thank you!!

I kinda just blacklist the gil sellers, it doesn't bother me too much.

Part 3: Ultros does have a high population. Other servers with high population (from what I've heard, also going off the character creation restrictions) are Gilgamesh, Excalibur, Sargatanas, or Balmung.

Blacklisting the gilseller /tells does work as long as you go in and clean your blacklist every week or so. otherwise you will fill it up because they respawn like cockroaches. Me I just turned off the notification sound for /tells and don't bother to pay attention to it anymore, the only time it bugs me now is when i'm having a conversation with a friend via /tell and get a gilseller in the middle of it
