Any ultrabooks capable of running this game nicely?

I've found a few good one's in terms of general hardware, but they seem to have a lot of intel hd 4000 or 4400 graphics coprocessors and those obviously suck.

I already have a powerful desktop, but I hate being at home all day and would like to play in between classes at university as well.

Well, some of the asus xenbooks have nvidia cards in them, but they're not very powerful. You'd have to play at 1366 x 768 with the lowest details and you might eek out 20ish fps.

I'd probably wait until more Core-M ultrabooks come out with Nvidia's 900 series graphics.

the ultrabooks with the nvidia 900 gpus are the only near choice to do it, reason for this, temperatures, but I would think the CPU would throttle first on this, does it need to be an ultrabook though, and not just a standard laptop, they will have the nvidia 900 series gpus in as well and less chance to throttle under gaming where the cpu will get taxed.

But thats really the only choice at this stage, dunno when they are out, might need a shop around your part of the world for it.

The biggest problem you would see with ultrabooks is thermal throttling, whilst they can pack powerful CPUs and some with powerful GPUs the lack of ventilation is a problem, with how thin ultrabooks are there is no airflow thus they overheat much faster and throttle earlier to avoid damage. If you want something to move around I would go for a laptop designed with high performance in mind, a thicker one that allows for somewhat decent airflow.

Remember you can have the most powerful hardware around but if it's constantly throttling due to heat it's as much good as budget hardware.

My old crappy M-17x Alienware laptop was able to play this on Medium settings @ launch and had an AMD Radeon 4800 series in it at the time (which is mega-old news now) so I would assume as long as the processing power is good and the laptop has a decent dedicated graphics card it should be able to run the game on Medium at the least. Just a thought, I'm sure there are some very capable gaming laptops available nowadays.

    Gaming laptops =/= ultrabooks.

Ultrabooks have a specific dimension to adhere to set by Intel to be allowed to be marketed as Ultrabooks. They typically does not have a dedicated GPU, and if any, are still insufficient to run FFXIV. Most of them does not have a dedicated GPU but the integrated 4800-5000 or Intel Iris etc. They are mostly meant for productivity and work purposes.
