Can someone give me some goals to work on?

Now, I know this is an MMO and that you pretty much do whatever you want, but I just need to know some things that people commonly try to accomplish and the methods people usually take in doing so.

I have not played FF14 since about 2 months after the release, but I want to give it another go because of all the updates and I just need to know some common goals people work towards when they start playing. I started a new character which is a MRD atm, been working on that, but I feel I am just playing aimlessly.

Right now the ultimate goal is dungeon runs. Nothin' you can do there except rank up.

Get to 25 and run Toto-Rak.
Get to 45 and run Darkhold.

    Other than that...

Explore the cities and do the sidequests, even though the rewards are meager.
Level a craft if you can stomach the tedium (I sure can't).
Wait 'til Thursday and get some swimsuits!

You also sound like you need a good linkshell. It gets damn boring without one.

I can sympathize with this... I stopped playing around January, when the only reason to rank up was to see the main scenario quests... that largely still seems to be the case, though now you can also do some dungeons, and there are few more copy paste quests around that provide some color to the bland cast of npcs plaguing the game.

I'm not in a huge hurry to rank up, for a multitude of reasons, and beyond that there really isn't much in the game to do.

So my current goals are to keep up with the changes they are making, and to slowly level everything to rank 20.

When I find something I enjoy I'll take it a bit further, but mostly I'm staying in stasis until several things are ironed out in a satisfactory manner.

Want to add that doing the dungeons (well the quest for it) rewards you with seals corresponding to the Grand company you did the quest. With the seals you can purchase gears that are class specific. So Dungeons are not only to rank up, there are also gears to be obtained from within I think also (just did 1 run since I just dinged 25 yesterday).

Pretty sure end-game linkshells still do NM fights.

Quests are pretty much soloable and I find they add a nice boost to leveling when you don't have much time on your hand for grind parties.

    -Gather all the Aetherites,
-Get all your classes to 20, then 30, then 40, then 50. (well, the ones you enjoy anyway)
-Complete the dungeons along the way,
-Gear yourself up for the classes you enjoy,
-Kill the world NMs (for gear and for fun)
-Finish all of the world quests,
-Finish all of the Company Quests,
-Write macros for your classes (gear and action swap macros as well as action use) to swap classes quickly and enhance your usability in parties.
    -Explore the world
    -Make some friends
-Have FUN. (its not a job, its a game!)

Absolutely. A linkshell is a must, I'm sure there are several on your server willing to invite you. I'd check the server forums to see if anyone's posted a looking for shell thread or a now recruiting thread.

Having people to talk to even when you aren't out to save the world or massacre newts is a good thing.

I have a dumb question. I started a new character so I can play the updated game fresh, and I am totally broke for gear. Is there any way for me to get the Gil from my older character onto my new character? or will I have to somehow go through a friend to do that?

There is no mail system for you to do that presently.

The only 100% safe way to do it is to sell something in the wards to yourself.

Unfortunately there will be a 5% tax if you place it in the right ward.

A trusted friend is the best bet.

    Completely agree.
And the red items are probably the things that many people seem to forget about most often.

There are actually a LOT of things to do in this game... unless someone is set on trying to get one or more battle jobs up to R50 as quickly as possible. Then it can be a really long and boring grind of doing the same leves over and over.

Play nice. Make friends and find a good Linkshell. Explore. Have fun.
It is possible to have fun. ^^
