My first days as a Rogue! - Personal Feedback / Suggestions

So, like many others in the game, I was happy to finally be able to gain exp again (all other classes were capped a loooong time ago). After taking care of getting Sleipnir (my 2.4 priority above all!), I immediately went and unlocked Rogue.

I really love it so far (up to lv28, I'm taking it easy, only doing daily roulettes, and what needed to fill the Dungeons/Guildhests/Leves/FATEs sections of the challenge log)! And I'm excited to see more. I have also spent a good deal of time talking with other players and comparing experiences and opinions, and this is what I have to throw out there so far.

    1) It would be really really cool to be able to see other party members' TP. This would make Bards happy as well, I'm sure.

    2) Another thing that has been long demanded by Bards: monsters attacks that are magic (and their respective AoE fields) should have a different font color than regular physical skills. That way, we could know when Perfect Dodge and Blunt Arrow are going to help and when not. I was kind of baffled that time I tried to silence an Imperial Mage's Paralyze only to discover it wasn't considered magic. So, eh, give it a thought. Also, I think it's kinda weird that Perfect Dodge can dodge a physical AoE but the rogue still gets affected by its related detrimental status. If I Perfect Dodged the Sastasha Coeurl's Charged Whisker, why am I still paralyzed? What is that paralyzed my body exactly? Fear? I'd understand if it was Terror.

    3) Hide cannot be used in boss fights. No matter who engages first, the moment the boss is approached, its name appears on the whole party's aggro list and as such, Hide is rendered unusable. I know that at later levels, Ninja gets a trait to use Sneak Attack without Hide, but doesn't this make Hide a nearly pointless ability altogether? I don't know, I'd like to see it exploited more often.

    4) Trick Attack. I am only lv28, but I can check already the abilities and traits I will gain at later levels (with the exception of Job Abilities) and I have noticed Trick Attack's description. It seems to... well.. completely overpower Sneak Attack. Superior damage, additional detrimental status on the enemy, and can be executed from behind which is almost always a safest position, if we exclude some very very specific instances such as Amdapor Keep. So I wonder, once you're 50, what is the point of Sneak Attack? Why would I (almost) ever want to use it over Trick Attack? Lv50 ninja players have told me that Sneak Attack does not receive any buffer as far as the level goes (though I guess we'll have to see for the new level cap..), so I just wonder, why make two separate abilities when one completely overpowers the other? BLM and WHM also have tiered spells, but still work so that you have to still use the base tier spells (Fire, Cure, etc.) for the job to effectively work. Wouldn't it have been easier to just put an "Enhanced Sneak Attack" trait at 50 that turned Sneak Attack in what Trick Attack is instead? Time will tell. As it turns out, the trait Shadowstalker at 32 boosts Sneak Attack's damage to 500, making it a possible alternative to Trick Attack on certain situations. The trait's tooltip doesn't mention it though. It'd be nice to have it corrected. Thanks for letting me know!

Anyways, that was just my 2 gil. Rogue/Ninja is still a new class/job and will definitely require feedback and suggestions to be improved, so let us share our experience!

I can answer this one: Rogue was released now because Yoshi felt the lack of a "scout" class in PvP. Hide is mostly a PvP skill, since NINs get a ninjutsu that allows them to use sneak/trick atk even w/o Hide.

We do need a party TP visual notification such as bars because else we have a wasted skill in goad if cannot see them given the skills purpose is to regenerate a party members TP but we currently have no way to see if they need it and the same goes for bard TP party regen skill. When we have multiple classes having skill to regen party members TP we need a way to see if they need that skill used and currently we do not.

While I agree with you that the TP bar should be visible, it can be worked around with a little communication. I've seen multiple WHM with macros to ask for Ballad. What's stopping anyone making a macro asking for Paeon/Goad?

    1) Yes please.

    3) Sneak attack does more damage then trick attack. 500 potency from the front versus Trick attack 400 potency from behind. Though the 10% vulnerability for the entire party far outclasses that anyway. It doesn't say it, but at level 32 you get the trait Shadowstalker which boosts sneak attacks potency. They should really add that to the tooltip. (At least this is when I noticed my sneak attack damage going up)

They do on the patchnotes and your own tooltip AFTER you get the trait.
Also, Sneak Attack has a very specific purpose as an add-killer. Trick Attack is for bosses, sneak attack is for the adds it spawns.

I meant they should add the boosting sneak attack damage to the Shadowstalker tooltip, it still just says "Allows for quicker movement while hidden" even at 50 for me.

    1. Agreed. Its basically an estimation of how much tp I think a party member will be using. When I'm with my static, I have a better feel for it, but in pugs its a shot in the dark.

    2. That'd be nice too. For now I've just been throwing caution to the wind and allowing myself to be potentially hit by a lot of things in order to learn what perfect dodge works on. Notable moves: Homing missile in T8, Dodge bombs in T5, Meteor Stream in T9.

    3. It's useful in lower level dungeons and PVP. Every class seems to have 1 ability or so that doesn't get much use at end game. Think of Monk's haymaker or Dragoon's feint.

    4. Soloing mostly.

Nevermind... looks like Dgsoil answered where it comes from. It's just not in the tooltip
