As someone said you will never learn your class/job if an easy button is always handed to you.

Not meant to be elitist, but if your PT need echos to beat a REGULAR dun, that is not the system or SE's fault:
1/ Party was so so so UNDERGEARED.
2/ Party were too DUMB to DODGE any Of the mechanic or they just don't BOTHER and think they are INVINCIBLE.
3/ Party failed to grab the very BASIC idea of the class they play.
Again, if you need Echos to beat a REGULAR dun,( even after all that tip-tap, instruction, etc...) maybe the game is too hard for you and my advice, find other easier game to play.
And specific for your case:
1/ The tank could not take a few hit. Seems to me like he is either UNDER GEARED or did not BOTHER to doge any of the breath.
2/ Healer could not keep up with the heal. If the one I said about the Tank turn out to be true, then yes the healer would have a hard time to heal him. Otherwise, the healer need to re-learn his class as a Healer. SCH does not have Leeches to cure status but a WHM has no excuse for not using Esuna if the tank has so many poison stack on them.
3/ Failed to kill the boss even within the timer. Seems to me either the DPS is UNDER GEARED, failed to know the very BASIC of the class they play, hence result in remarkably low DPS overall. If not, it is the tank fault again for not positioning the Dragoon out of his poison pool. Remember, when inside his poison pool, he can REGEN and will OUT HEAL any DPS dealt to him.
So yeah, seems like your party was the source of the trouble after all. Not the boss nor not having the echo in Duns.
