I personally don't have an issue with the new DF penalty system at all because I've never had an issue with it nor have I had an issue like the one you experienced. But I can definitely see how that can be frustrating and annoying. Perhaps they'll hotfix it in future patch so that only the individual who withdrew gets the penalty and not the entire group. That seems quite absurd actually that they'd punish everyone.
