    Pugilist Gear (rank50)

I was curious what the community wears with 1.18 in mind.

This would be my guess to what's best for a PGL in a tank/offtank role, disregarding price.

    Weapon: Jade Hora HQ
    -138 ATK
    -150 ACC
    -172 Crit
    -180 Parry
    -90% blunt / 10% pierce

    Head: Buccaneer's Tricorn
    -defense 53
    -m. defense 68
    -evasion 18
    -+24 HP
    -+3 STR
    -+24 elemental resist

    Chest: Buccaneer's Shirt
    -defense 104
    -m. defense 96
    -evasion 34
    -+48 HP
    -+6 STR
    -+31 elemental resist

    Legs: Tarred Leather Trousers
    -defense 99
    -m. defense 31
    -evasion 22
    -+3 STR
    -+6 VIT
    -+17 elemental resist

Hands: Mitts of the Lone Knight
    -defense 50
    -m. defense 57
    -evasion 22
    -+3 STR
    -+2 MND
    -+33 elemental resist

    Feet: Bladedancer's Jackboots
    -defense 40
    -m. defense 65
    -evasion 38
    -+3 DEX
    -+3 ACC
    -+16 elemental resist

    Waist: Buccaneer's Sash
    -defense 17
    -m. defense 15
    -evasion 7
    -+18 HP
    -+7 elemental resist

I know there are some debatable choices for endgame gear, please list your disagreements plus your reasoning. Also, what do you guys wear for accessories?

    For tanking/DD I use

Verdant Hora / Disabling Baghnakhs +1
    Silver Tricorne +1
Alpine War Jacket / Buccaneer's Shirt
    Spiked Leather Armguards +1
    Tarred Voyager's Belt +1
    Tarred Leather Trousers +2
    Bladedancer's Jackboots

The Hora I only use for whn I need to tank 'cause of the parry stat, I consider the disabling baghnakhs better for DDing because of the Paralyze and Poison that oftens sticks in the mobs, and I prefer the Alpine War Jacket over the Bucc Shirt for tanking 'cause of the higher defense.

As for accessories, at the moment I use 2 Mythril's wristlets (SP?) and depending on what I do a Garnet or Amethyst Ring, obviously the Garnet for DD and the Amethyst for tanking.
    ^^

(I might use the Lone Knight Mitts over the Armguards but I still haven't got my hand in them... =P )

Do you actually notice the effects of paralyze and poison?

This.....is a think i always wanted to know too! @_@ i actually never used baghnakhs doe the awkward damage type of it...and never used dagger as GLA either so i never had a weapon that supposedly had additional effect.

Of Paralyze I do, the mobs always attacks a bit less I think, of poison, I really can't say because I normally always have a THM behind me spamming Poison II... XD

I can tell you that when I used these baghnacks (for about 7 ranks), I couldn't notice the poison at all, while the paralyze effect could "maybe" paralyze the enemy once before it go off.
I mean sure it lands the effects easily on target but the effects are almost unnoticeable, at least by me...

The only way that these effects would be helpfull is by using victimize cause its dependant on negative effects of the enemy.

Also something to note is that those poison/paralyze effects will overwrite those of mages which means they suck a lot more.

Also from what I've been hearing blunt weapons are outright better for Pugilists in most situations simply because most of the weapon skills are blunt damage type.

If stats worked then Silver Tricorne could be a bit more competition for the Buccaneer's Tricorne for the DEX. Dex affecting parry and evade would certainly make up for the 24 HP. The defense/evade stats on the Silver Tricorne are better than the Buccaneer's though.

Bucc Shirt seems sound for tanking.

Jade Hora HQ sure, though I tend to base my decisions off of NQ stuff. Not going to bother spending all that time/money just to get a chance at HQ. In which case the Verdant Hora are better than the Jade Hora.

Edit: Going to put up the argument of Velveteen Kecks vs Tarred Leather Trousers. Basically Trousers have twice the defense but half the evasion of Kecks. However they have the both Strengh bonus but the Trousers have a Vit bonus. From a tanking standpoint, which would you say is better?

Really depends on tanking method, I would have to say that the Kecks are the more rounded choice, higher evasion for physical and higher magic defense for magical.

But if you choose to just blood tank or will only be fighting monsters with physical attacks, then tarred should edge out the kecks a bit.

Both pieces are close though, and if you're already defense heavy then a little more evasion won't make much difference.

So choose base on your play style and gear that you're already using.

I found the paralyze on disabling baghnaks to be rather weak when fighting higher level mobs, about equal to the paralyzing potions used to make them. In other words it will land whenever it proc's (which is fairly rare), but it won't paralyze much/very long. I don't think it is worth it especially when DD'ing due to the high % of slashing dmg they have versus most important mobs.

I also go for defense over pure evasion when tanking because I don't have defender II. Once I have defender II I imagine I'll flip those priorities.
