I can't see players 30 meters in front of me!

Sometimes I can but mostly the players that get drawn are in my immediate proximity or I've been standing on a crafter for 30 seconds before the 3d model gets drawn partly inside of me.

This isn't such a big deal in cities like Ul'dah or Gridania but on the field and in LL it's pretty bad.

It would be so cool if I could see a player I'm meeting up with on the bridge of LL from the second level of the town or see people walk around town. Usually when character models get drawn they're likely to be just running past you so the general sense is that I'm running in this weird ghost town.

It would make the gameplay on the field more interesting too. Following visually another player is a big gameplay element in many other games MMO or not but in XIV the characters disappear way too quickly for this mechanic to work.

It's probably due to the server issues XIV has had a lot because this almost never happens in XI except in the most crowded area where it takes a while to see everybody.

At first I thought it's me but after updating my internet connection to the highest speed the problem didn't change at all.

I think this issue should be pretty high on the list of things to solve because it affects a pretty large amount of the entire gameplay experience. Empty servers seem even more dead because of the ghostly way characters warp in and out of view.

Also I'm playing from Europe so on top of that this is the laggiest zone to play in based on what I hear on the forums.

Though I personally don't find latency to be a problem, you could use a tunneling service to help with your latency.

You know what else affects a pretty large amount of the entire gameplay experience?
    The world layout.
    The battle system.
    The job system.
    Character balance.
    The overall lack of content.
    The lack of endgame goals.
    The lack of midgame goals.
    The transportation system.
    The leveling system.
    The crafting system.
    Linkshell functionality.

    Basic keyboard control issues.

Yup all of the above too. Aren't those all known issues though? (I'm honestly just guessing here)

I could be completely wrong here, but between the mmo's i've played, xi and xiv have this issue by far the most. I believe it has something to do with their graphic optimization. Characters are only drawn within a certain distance from you. While many games do this, many others the range is very far, almost farther than you can see, while SE games seem to "cut" out characters rather close.

This has been my experience. I play on a rather fast pc, with a fast connection. And characters are drawn for me only within a certain range of me (if i had to guess, its about 50 yards).

My only guess to why they do this is character detail. Characters are drawn with a lot of detail in this game. Compared to like wow for instance. I can see characters in wow drawn as far as I can see, but the detail of them is nowhere near the detail in this game.

Isn't it just the far clipping distance is set to be low, I'm sure on FFXI there was a way to manually set it (perhaps not officially).

We should have options to change this setting on the distance/amount of characters/npcs to render, and this should be an in game setting. People with more powerful PC's and Video cards should be able to see more detail.
