All MMOs have mechanics and staff in place to reduce trolling.
Because withdrawing from a queue over and over and over again is SO hard for them to detect, and automatically flag for investigation so they can discipline the trolls. They already have tracking stuff for the much more complicated problem of RMT. That sort of behavior should be ludicrously easy to detect.

And that's if it's even really that pervasive to begin with. You're telling me, that there are so many trolls that will group up because they're bored and click queue/withdraw over and over and it's so widespread that it will even affect your average player? I seriously doubt that. People queue/withdraw spam primarly for a reason, and that was for in progress dungeons. I seriouly doubt half of the player base has even had a single queue stopped because trolls group up to harass people they couldn't even see. And how many of them are coordinating their trollish behavior out of game because if they discuss their trolling in chat that's easy to show intent to harass and ban.

TLDR: what you described doesn't happen on a wide enough scale to even warrant action. And even if it was, it should be very, very easy to automatically track and ban.

EDIT: why did they use this solution? Because while they were solving the solo in progress withdrawl problem (badly I might add), they tacked this on here too without much thought whatsoever.

so the penalty is 30 mins,..and you only get 3 strikes...and the strikes reset every day?

why do they need to reset? what happens if you get 6 strikes (doing it again 3 times after you get a 30 min lock out)?

30 mins isint that long, i'm just confused about the whole reset aspect of it all.

after 3, you are locked out. should someone withdraw again during that same day, it only takes one to lock them after that. thats the point of the reset.

There is one thing that's not fair with this new system, that no one has brought up yet...

A couple of friends queued up in a party together, their first duty ever that day. No one had queued for anything at all. And for one reason or other, one of them timed out on the queue pop -- and they all got locked out. If it worked as it should, they might all have gotten one penalty (though I think it should just be the one timing out who should get it, but fair enough). Now they each got one penalty per person in the group, meaning three or four penalties each instead of just one -- I forget if they were three or four people queuing. And that cannot be "working as intended".

And yes, I know these people well enough to know they were telling the truth about not having any penalties since before.

I see, I wish they would have explained all this in the notes.

Thank you for the answer though.

    Goodbye Duty Finder

I refuse to queue for the DF again until this issue is readdressed. If it never is then I will never use it. I play all day (no trolls please) because of this I may queue my healer or tank and then have something come up in another window that I must attend to. Or real life calls. Out the 30+ duties I participate a few fall through the cracks /gasp!. So I miss them, I then reque as soon as I see what happened and on the game goes. Not once has the world ended because I did not get the window in time. Been playing since V1 so yeah I have a lot of time invested in the game, I am not saying any of this lightly.

What I do not understand is, where is the problem? When I play DPS I wait long periods of time then join and sometimes a player refuses and I am placed back in the queue. So WHAT!!! I may have to wait a few more minutes.

Perhaps I am missing something but have we all become so unable to wait that we now have to be punished like children? So concludes my rant.

From a technical point of view, the way it's programmed now makes perfect sense, but perhaps could use a better explanation from the developers. It's the queueing entity (player or party) that receives the penalty because, if one person in the party cancels, the entire party's queue is cancelled and none of them enter the duty. Let's say you're in a party of three and queuing for the fourth member; if one of your party members doesn't consent it's exactly the same as if all three of you didn't consent from the queue system's point of view. There's no real way around this at that moment because if you just kick the non-consenting member, you still can't enter the duty right away since it now has to find a replacement, so you enter the queue again.

So basically, it just means that the party leader needs to make sure their entire team is ready before they queue. And this is also probably why the limitation is only 30 minutes; annoying, but not the end of the world.

Particularly for the larger raids, this gets to be a really, really annoying user experience. It pops, you say you're ready, wait 45 seconds... 1 person cancels. Then it pops again, you're ready again, and someone else cancels. This goes on for enough times and you're just like "FFS - why isn't there an 'I'm always ready, just start darn it' option" and you blame the game for the bad experience.

That being said, you'd have to cancel three times in a 24-hour period (or be in a party that does the same) for the lockout to take effect. This should mean that the average person's innocent mistakes (like, "waited for an hour, and of course the minute the doorbell rings, now it pops" or whatever) won't count against them. Only if you're doing this habitually.

You know, I keep hearing people say how they shouldn't suffer a penalty because "real life calls", or "emergencies happen", but...if you really got something happening more than 3 times, maybe you need to take care of that first before playing a video game? Are you really having distractions from the game every single day that you absolutely need to keep withdrawing multiple times?

Exactly. People also seem to be missing the fact that you can withdraw as many times as you want before the duty pops-- the penalty is only incurred if people withdraw AFTER the duty has popped. Having had to sit through 30 minutes of a duty popping and people withdrawing before, I think this is perfectly fair. Maybe it will make people think twice about queuing up while they know they're liable to be distracted by something.
