I prefer the graphics. (Basically I hate WoW's cartoony look)
I also like that the story/quests aren't presented to you in a single wall of text.
Character creation and customization look far better!
Friends from XI also play it. None of them play WoW anymore.

I love that I can switch classes and still be on the same character, personaly aside from the FF brand and a good mmorpg in general, the fact that one character can unlock all the classes without rerolling is one of the biggest reason why I prefer FFXIV over WoW.

Better lore and better characters. At least here I know they won't pull stuff out of their asses to create raid bosses, and we won't see ridiculous or nonsensical attempts at character arcs.

    * The sad thing is that FFXIV turned RDM into a turret, and people think that's what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to combine sword and magic into something more, not spend the bulk of gameplay spamming spells and jump into melee for only 3 GCDs before scurrying back to the back line like good little casters.
    * Design ideas:
Red Mage - COMPLETE (https://tinyurl.com/y6tsbnjh), Chemist - Second Pass (https://tinyurl.com/ssuog88), Thief - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/vdjpkoa), Rune Fencer - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/y3fomdp2)

The artistic style is a big thing for me... say what you want about SE and what they've done to the franchise these games always look the business. Also I don't like WoW's 'big one job and that's ya lot!' With you characters. I love that I can just chop and change <3

When I first started playing FFXIV, I felt it looked exactly like how I wanted to see WoW. I wanted to see WoW's graphics look more realistic with more realistic colours and have realistic proportions. The dungeons are some much more exciting than WoW. The Job system is awesome and I LOVE the crafting system.

There is nothing in WoW that I find interesting anymore after playing FFXIV and the developers from SE are a lot more involved in their game than the developers for WoW. Blizzard is mostly concerned with their customers in the USA over everywhere else and it takes them 10 years to have servers located in Australia for the Oceanic players? WoD has absolutely nothing to tempt me to put money back into it. Everything I want from an MMO is in FFXIV, so I don't need to leave it .

Plus the player base is 100% better than the player base in WoW.

Despite never been on Final Fantasy XI or WoW whatsoever, FFXIV was something completely new to me. I got the ps4 game when it first came out, and started having a go with it, a month had passed and I was completely hooked on it, I then subbed and continued playing it. I'll do anything for my character to get to endgaming, whatever the class/job.

The graphics and music in particular where ever my character was in the game, when up against creatures or beasts, is really good.
Also, the fact I can get a normal female character, or any race, on the go and not OTT on physical features.

    1) Lorewise, its just more interesting, and in terms of genre, FFXIV has a rich science fantasy flavour, with its technology being in a sort of magic technology industrial revolution.
    2) FFXIV is more consistent than WoW with storytelling. If some hidden information needs to be made known in FFXIV, its made to be a shocking reveal that leaves a lot of questions open to be answered. WoWs story was all over the place when I played, and reading up some of the lore later on didn't leave me impressed.
    3) I don't have to raid in order to be a good player. I can always choose to raid, and I have done in the past (still need to start SCoB though), but I don't feel as though I'm FORCED to raid in order to get the main story.
    4) No need for alts. I hate alt-itis.
    5) This one may be my fault, but coming from FFXI where I went in with no friends and made them as I went along, WoW was far too lonely. With FFXIV, I've continued to meet new people and speak with them.

    Thats why I adore FFXIV.

It was the perfect storm and they did take elements from other MMOs and put their blizzard polish on it and came out with 4.5 million subs in 12 months. That type of success isn't just contributed just to timing.
