There are just so many things you could be doing rather than spamming Cure 1. Pop a Cure 2, switch to Cleric Stance, DPS for a little bit, then pop Cleric off to pop Cure 2 again. Cure 1 spammers are just trying to look busy while not actually contributing to the fight much imo. I only Cure 1 spam when the mob is going to die before I can switch to Cleric and cast something, so I top the Tank up (or cast Stoneskin).
It's more about MP conservation, really, since Cure I is basically free to cast. One mistake can end up with a WHM burning all their MP very, very quickly and I don't know about you, but I'd rather save what I can until that happens, especially with a party I don't know. There are just so many things you could be doing rather than spamming Cure 1. My whm is level 35 and I am COMPLETELY GUILTY of fluid aura shenanigans and having a tank die while in cleric stance. To my defense though, that tank went from taking like no damage at all to "wtf is that a flying spleen and liver- whysomuchbloodohgod". I am not graceful with cleric stance swap yet, so I'd spam the button and accidentally turn it off and back on really fast, and my cure 2 spam was not enough for that big pull, and i said I was sorry. xDD BUT IT's NOT A REGULAR THING. I love healing the easier low level dungeons. <.<b In the end I don't get obnoxious about it, and adjust my level of tom foolery based on the skill of the group/ease of the dungeon so far. It's fun to have people's lives in your hands though. D: If my party feels secure in my healing then I'm doing it too well. So watch out if you're in DF server group with Cactuar world and doing lower lvl dungeons. I'm out there. o_o

To be fair, sometimes you need Fluid Aura. Especially in lower level...although it's beautiful in ST too. The trick is to not be stupid in how/when/why you use it.
Low level. If you have a nooblet tank/slow as crap DD's it's nice because it can effectively knock one mob out of range for a couple seconds saving the healer a cure or two. Or even better, it can sometimes save the day if additional adds accidentally link and are too much for the tank to hold/take damage from. If your dd's are good enough, they can typically kill at least one mob before the 'bind' wears on the link (or have it close to dead). Making life easier on all. More specifically, once you have repose, you can (if your party isn't AoEing), knock back the #3 mob/sleep it so it's not accidentally hit and awoken. Also, it is nice low level if you get hate because, you can use it to ping pong the mob back into the tank's range without needing to move...but to do this, you need to be standing in a direct line with the tank.
In ST, it's sexy because in the 'add fights' between bosses it's very likely that as a healer you'll pull hate on an add here or there and these adds hit kinda hard+ tend not to be picked up right away by the OT's (like they should be). But one Fluid Aura+Repose can get the mob out of strike range+closer to the Tanks/DD's that need to kill it when they are ready and the Repose buys you time. I've just gotten into the habit of sleeping all the adds I can in these fights (with or without Fluid Aura) to keep all the squishy mages safe until the Alliance decides to kill them. Saves lives.
Obviously, however Fluid Aura should NOT be part of your normal 'rotation' lol. It's just a good utility spell that you can use to help a group out as/if needed. But party composition and skill also greatly factor into whether or not you should use this skill. It's an annoying and/or waste of time skill if you are in a decently skilled/geared group that can handle hate/mitagate damage well and kills at a reasonable speed. Sometimes I think one of the reasons seeing Fluid Aura cast annoys tanks is because they know if a WHM has to rely on it, they likely aren't holding hate well.
Other times, WHM's get blamed for fluid aura ping ponging and it's NOT them....it's the smn and their darn carby/garuda. So you know, it is worth checking before assuming.
I'm adding myself to this thread. For some reason I suddenly went full retard and have been screwing up all day. In one dungeon I did the first two pulls in cleric stance because I forgot to turn it off. Then I hit the wrong trigger and tried to Stone II the tank instead of Cure II during a huge pull. I apologize for the wipe and rebuff. Then we get started again and I realize I forgot to switch back from the crossbar protect is on to my healing bar. The last thing I thought as I died was how I wished I could have lived just a few more seconds so I could commit seppuku myself with the dead ninja's tanto. I fail at life and I apologize to anyone who had to party with me tonight. I don't know what's wrong with me.

you want a WTFWHM ? here is a perfect one :
TiTan HM, 6 mins before daily roulette reset. Runs on Titan as soon as the Duty starts, without protect nor SS nor anything, pulls with Aero and then spam Medica2 and cure3 to stay alive and somehow "assure his healer duties"
1 min after, he drops dead, mana starved, and insult the whole party for letting him die (Ain't nobody got time for buffs.. And why the fuck can't the tank take hate back from my awesome wtf mass heal ?)
Fun fact, we DID manage to down titan in time for the reset with a solo heal in i60 dpsing as much as possible ;D
