Besides being extremely entertaining, is there any point to fighting the Garlean armies that Alfgar speaks of. So far, I have only received deaspected crystals from killing the soldiers. As far as I can tell, these crystals are pointless.

Besides being fun to kick imperial ass....
- Imperials can drop +3 gear ranking from r20-35, I think
- Deaspected crystals have 2 uses
- Trade 30 to Kor...summat NPC in Gridania for a Peregrine Helm
- Trade 1 to same NPC for 100 of any shard of your chosing, plus some lore tidbits
Hope this helps!
How do you get to fight these imperials. I can only find three that you can not engage in a fight?
They tried to eradicate the Jedi and blew up Alderaan.
First an NPC (Roysia or Alfgar) will appear either at the camp, or in the neighbouring town spewing nonsense about the Empire.
Next a Militia Outrider NPC will appear near the r20 camp and ask you to aid in the battle.
Kill waves of Imperials, possibly get +3 gear, win, grab chest for Deaspected Crystals!
