The amount of times I've tried to help new players in a light hearted positive way and get totally ignored is disgusting. There have been some, albeit, that have taken advice and improved. But, more often than not it has been the opposite. So why bother trying to help players who have such a bad attitude that they are not, in any way receptie to tips and advice, no matter how it is given? Why should I waste my time and energy on 10 people before that one appears who is receptive to friendly guidance?

I always advise and teach by highlighting the positives first, then suggesting ways on how to improve on weaker aspects and point out what isn't working and why they need practice, then give them advice on how to. Even throw out some light hearted, off topic comments to keep it as it is, friendly.

Those who want to be helped will be more active in acquiring that, whether it's asking in party or using the myriads of guides available on the interwebz. Those who don't do not even read ability tool tips.

It's not on others to teach if they cannot make any effort whatsoever themselves.

Don't blame those who can teach, blame those who don't want to learn.
