Thema: Storyline in 2.4 (SPOILERS)

What do you think about it? I was honestly disappointed. I've enjoyed the storyline so far but this time I just wanted it to be over as soon as possible.

What did we get this time?
Alphinaud with his usual "Freedumz for Eorzea, unite plz, join our alliance plz". Dude does that every patch, I can't stand it anymore.
Second part of the storyline: Some crazy nutjobs summon a primal. Minfilia calls the gang and they decide that the warrior of light is their only chance, as usual. But first, do 20 "go to places and talk to people" filler quests. So, you go defeat the primal and watch an ascian rub his dirty hands in the background. Sounds familiar, doesn't it?

It didn't add anything to the story progression, except the bit about the garlean emperor and the tiny bit about Nanamo. Now I'm starting to understand all the people who skip cutscenes. Just imagine a newly joined player who gets to do the whole storyline from 2.0 to 2.4 in one piece. I doubt that it will somehow keep them interested after playing countless hours of almost identical storyline content. SE seriously needs to hire new writers.

The game's self awareness of its "You don't have any choice, follow my orders peasant" progression is starting to grate.

They do much better when not trying to cram seasonal type storylines into a patch. They have never been good at telling short stories imo. That said, it's just my opinion. I only hope they go from playing catch up to actually being 4 years ahead in development of story as well as game design.

You're kidding, right? This was probably the most lore-filled storyline we've had so far with tons of new developments and implications, not to mention building up directly to the expansion storyline. Maybe pay more attention and read the cutscenes next time?

This I agree with. Not to mention the Sultana's proposition at the end...it made me feel like I was in a political drama. Maybe that one Royalist is playing everybody just because he wants her to do what she's doing? If so, he's entering the territory of Chessmaster.

I so wanna go toe-to-toe with the new emperor.

What did we actually get in Patch 2.4's storyline:

>Storyline that generates hype for 3.0 through introduction of Aymeric, who provides a proper mouthpiece for Ishgard regarding Eorzea's situation.
>A deeper look into the Ishgardian faith, namely through the conflict between the Houses of Fortemps and Durendaire against Iceheart's followers, and how Saint Shiva committed the greatest sin by laying with a dragon, something Iceheart and her followers consider to be a holy union.
>The potential revival of Midgardsormr, who is considered by Ishgard to be a Bahamut-level threat.
>The new Garlean emperor has not only shown himself, but has allies deeply embedded within the ranks of the Immortal Flames and maybe even the Syndicate as well.
>In order to better protect Ul'dah and make her people more prosperous, she intends to renounce the throne and transform Ul'dah into a democratic state governed by its people.
>Teledji Adeledji intent on making a more direct move against the Royalists, which could put a very serious damper on the Sultana's plans.

That's just bullet points for the Main Scenario quests, which is about two patches worth of story content as far as previous patches are concerned.

As far as MMO stories go, this is actually really damn impressive, even if it does have a "but thou must" quality to it.
