Well, my complaining aside - they can't be epic. The design is one of planned obsolescence with VERY quick turnover in gear. They really can't fit in a good quest because

1. It has to be doable in the small window where the weapon might be somewhat useful -and-
2. It can't be too lengthy or detailed, because it will be obsolete soon - so the investment has to be pretty much a form of controlled grinding to fit in with the overall theme of content

The overall game design just doesn't support anything too epic.
