The state that the relic weapon was previously in just didn't justify it's existence other than a timesink, from a combination of both the time investment required (especially in regards to the atma step for the longest time, up until 2.4 anyway). It was bad as a "catch up" weapon if you tried to go beyond zenith because of how UATs dropped like hotcakes post 2.37, and how UATs were made available in ST on 2.3...same time as hunts giving bloodied logs that could be traded for sands. I dinged my first 50 on the release of 2.3 and got a UAT the next day from ST. That immediately voided any other reason other than "for the sake of it" to get up to novus. I was able to get a UAT and have 50~/750 allied seals to get a unweathered rosenburger before I even got my first atma.

Someone mentioned that yoshi delayed the relic steps in patch updates because not enough people had completed their steps to catch up...so he wanted to give them more time (though I see this as a fallacy considering the nature of atma).

And I personally don't have a problem with the tomestone weapon being a bit stronger...like people have mentioned it's gonna take a bit (maybe?) for someone to get to T11 to have it dropped. Though once we hit the next update where they let CT3 or hunts or whatever drop the tomestones and the upgrade catalyst effortlessly (a repeat of 2.3 pretty much)...well now we're running into problems again with the power difference:time commitment

Really, I feel like the relic questline shouldn't be just for the glamour. And as for the people that keep saying it's upgradable...aren't you upgrading your weapon anyway when you pick up a tomestone/dreadwyrm weapon that is stronger than your HA?

It's worth noting that you're probably going to see one, maybe two, Encrypted Allagan Tomestones each week, that's going to go to one out of eight people in your raid group, and once you even get it you need minimum 3 more weeks after 2.4 to farm up the Poetics to actually build the damn weapon.

Nexus is going to be the best weapon you can access for several weeks and up to even 2-3 months depending on how your group organizes and their success rate in Coil.

Depends on what definition you use weapon as. Weapon as the slot of which you will be wielding your main hand weapon? Yes, you are certainly upgrading the slot. But how about the actual weapon itself? My HA staff isn't making my Novus staff any stronger when its collecting dust in the armoury. And that's the beauty of relic weapons; its the only one that GROWS along with you. Everything else will get replaced and left in the dust, but relic is always been something of value to hold onto because it IS upgradeable.

That's how I see it honestly, you're upgrading the slot with the higher tier of the relic, just as you are upgrading the slot with the higher tier of coil weapons. The difference is that the relic is gated by progressive steps; you have to start with clean to zenith and so on. Back in the example I brought up, I could instantly pick up an unweathered weapon without ever having to touch t5 for allagan. The whole relic upgrading thing is just another cover over how you obtain the next part of the weapon; you'd be completing objectives rather than scoring a clear and a drop.
