Is having your class in this game as important as it is for me?

I've lately been wanting to see something like FFTA's Illusionist, even if only for the introduction of gorgeous elemental AoE animations. It would be hella cool to see an AoE-only magic DPS class, but it would probably be far too problematic for Tanks and Healers in most instances because I can't imagine it would be easy to hold hate constantly.

...but I still want to see it hahaha.

Always liked punching classes so Pugilist was my first choice. Second and third choices are dual knife classes and gun classes, never liked how WoW and its clones handle dual knife/Rogue classes with their Stealth mechanics so I usually pick gun classes in those, though so far this Rogue seems somewhat alright. Still would have liked Musketeer first, at this point I don't really care if it turns out to be a healer either, because Chemists are cool in FFT and I guess Agents from the FFTA sound kinda alright too.

^^^^^^ THIS a thousand times. Also Red Mage. :S My main job, still isn't in this game. D: I used to be a conjurer in 1.0, then they messed it up. Now I'm waiting for something else to take it's place.

As far as classes, I'm hoping for a Fencer, gun class and a class to lead up to a Samurai job as a tank~

I'm a Paladin. Pretty much since I started playing D&D 30+ years ago. I'll probably go on playing Paladins for as long as I keep gaming.

... but I would kind of like to try Samurai.

Personally I prefer DPS caster classes like sorcerers, warlocks, wizard, elementalist, etc., whatever names they get in games. Even better is said DPS caster classes have pets because I love having pets. There are way too many war classes and definitively not enough magic classes. I also like ranged classes like archer and dpsing with a bow, guns or whatever. My big disapoitment in FFXIV is that there are only 3 classes/jobs in the game that fits what I like to play: Black Mage, Summoner and Archer.

My favorite magic class so far I've found in MMOs is the mesmer in Guild Wars 1.

Personally I'm waiting on Samurai. I was really hoping it would be a tanking class, but with the introduction of Dark Knight as a two-handed sword tank I imagine Samurai will probably be the two-handed sword DPS. Either way I'll be playing both of them as I always tend to gravitate towards physical melee classes.
