Why can i bind my tilde key?

No idea, but I like the idea that a few keys aren't mapable - it leaves them free for other programs like Ventrillo's push-to-talk key, which I've mapped to it.

Or you could just voluntarily not map the keys that control other programs. Nobody forces you to map it in FFXIV, you know.
