Two Questions: Targeting w/ Controller and Macros for MRD

I'm new here so hopefully these are questions that haven't been asked too often that no one wants to respond. I did do some searching and still am seeking additional advice.

My first problem is that I seem to have trouble targeting mobs in a group. I know that left/right on the D-pad is supposed to only target enemies but it simply isn't the case. Hitting left/right on the D-pad during a FATE will cycle through all of the PC's as well. It's very frustrating and will make tanking extremely hard if I can't get comfortable targeting. Any tips?

My second request is for any early game macros that may help a MRD out. I use one that I found which combines Heavy Swing and Skull Sunder due to their combo usage. That works out great and would love to find other helpful macros if anyone has any.

    Thanks in advance!

    Welcome to the forums AaronElWhite,

If you look under your settings under the Main Menu, Character Configuration in game [Escape key or System], options for the fine tuning of targeting is there and it has a ton of options to try for both controller and mouse or it literally lets you select a mix of both and "custom". You can specify and set Filters for things like minions, companions, npc, pc, aggroing or non aggroing mob, while weapon is sheathed or not, party, signs, alliance, duty only mob etc.

Also it helps to have your Active Help messages set to show so that you can see them when they unlock. Some of the features of the main menu may unlock only after you progress.

As for macros, I don't play that class but here in the forums do a search for the key words and you should find some, possibly under the forum section for Marauder or Desciples of War.

There is an auto targeting filter enabled by default that makes it so that you will only target enemies and NPCs when your weapon is drawn, and you will target anything while your weapon is sheathed (which is what I'm assuming your problem is). Hitting the X button by itself will target the nearest enemy or NPC directly in front of you so face what you want to attack and hit X will usually get the job done. Otherwise, just pull out your weapon with L1 + R1 and it will automatically change the target filter to Enemies/NPCs only.

Also, if you want to only use the manual filters as the person above me mentioned, you can also disable the auto-filter in the character config. Just uncheck the "Change filter while weapon is drawn/sheathed" boxes (not the exact wording but it should be similar to that).

You may also want to consider disabling the weapon auto-sheathe but you should be fine leaving it the way it is in most cases.

Also controllers users have a new targgeting system as well. It's to cycle through your enmity list:
hold l1 and use up/down on the d-pad to go through that list.

Also some good tutorialson the controller setups and such:

As fol macros other than utility(i.e. message and do something) and crafting you should avoid them during gameplay. They are not helpful. Especially as a tank you will at times be doing Heavy swing on target1 while finishing Skull sunder on target 2 and once you get it butchers block on target 3.

Or even when it comes to tank swap provoke and then then using a readied butchers or skull sunder to get a decent hold on the mob.
