Baby proofing a game is just sad, let people make mistakes so they learn and don't repeat it, maybe it'll even save them real money if they learn that hastily buying whatever is thrown in their face first might not be the best option.

Oh, well, I know I can put <useless item> on board at 10,000,000 Gil, and if someone buy it, I done legit Gil, right? No RMT involved!

I think this thread works better when we explain how the market works and not when we try to see how many pages we can make where we insult them for this. They didn't understand how it works or the value of the market board to us and our enjoyment of the game.

To put this in real world terms for you and to show why it's the buyer who is ultimately responsible. I live within 10 miles of the border between my state and another. Gas costs in my state right now are about $2.89/gallon. Gas costs in the state not even 10 miles away are about $2.63/gallon. I choose to pay the higher cost. Why? It's convenient. I know I can get it cheaper elsewhere, and if I didn't the information that I can is easily accessible with a simple google search, yet I still buy it at the higher cost. Take an economics course. One of the very first things you will encounter is opportunity cost, which is all of the non-monetary values associated with a good or service. Convenience IS opportunity cost.

In the sloppy colloquialism that is imprecise day-to-day language, the fact that a merchant makes a profit selling someone else's product is a rip-off. But that is being blind to the fact that pricing is flexible and it more than just cost (materials + labor).

The fact that RMT does impact the market is no justification for price controls. It is irrelevant to this discussion. People that use RMT are not going blow even $1USD on useless items, even if they have more money than brains, they are not that stupid. They value their money more than anyone else actually. Many people put stuff out there for ridiculous prices because it is extra storage, and if it really sells for the ridiculous amount more power to them.

Yes, /sigh, that is a common fallacy born of ignorance & entitlement. There are transportation & storage costs... not to mention rent, electricity & staffing of a business establishment... so many other costs involved. All for a single apple sitting on my desk.

Using market board as an alternative storage is impressive too. But doesn't it being counted as "improper" usage of a game feature?

I don't see a problem, I quite often buy things off the MB which I know are available at a vendor, and am happy to pay double the price. The way I see it is I'm paying someone else to to the legwork for me.

Just lookup whatever item you want in the online databases. It will tell you where it can be bought, harvested, craft recipe to make it etc. etc.
