<3 ease of travel; if you're in a hurry to get someplace or have limited playtime then the accessibility is a bonus. Just because you can tele virtually everywhere doesn't mean you have to. With the introduction of flying mounts (heck any mount that tickles your fancy) you have the ability to take your time and be engrossed in the journey with your character. Let's call it taking a leisurely Sunday stroll.
On the flipside I do wish for more baddies as evil fearsome roaming death machines. I miss the 1.0 "sacrifice play" with a party member playing martyr for the good of the group to get to the desired location. Wanderer's Shadow is still my fav achievement. Shows how badass I was at walking past crabby crabs and booking it like a bat out of hell near wyverns![]()
I find the idea of making travel more difficult absurd.
Less Aethyrites? I could go for at least one more in Coerthas and the zone with Camp Bronze Lake.
Adding fake difficulty by adding mobs only there to be hard? I found that dumb in WoW, and I feel the same here. People would do anything to get around the obstacles to not have to deal with pointless death.
They could add in an Easy Travel and Hard Travel mode. Hard travel has less Aethyrites, and a bonus of level 90 mobs going around the zone (I know that wouldn't be practical for the server though.). Easy mode would be like it is now.
I'd only agree to less Aethyrites if chocobos were added to more camps, and they let you go to any zone from any zone (I don't mind the ride from Gridania to Aleport. Gives me time to do something else.).
At the same time, it does make the world feel more like a 'world'. I mean really, if you needed to be a badass Primal murdering adventurer just to travel between city states, the average NPC citizen would need a small army just to leave home.
Thats kind of an 'RP' point of view i guess (I don't RP at all) but really, Its not that bad. Having roadways that are not frequented by monsters is fine. I'll guarantee you kept to the middle of the roads and sprinted if something looked at you.
