As a returning player intrigued by the new patch, active servers are unjoinable??

I recently resubbed in the hopes of creating a brand new char on a server more active than my previous of about a year ago.

However, it looks like the character creation restrictions will be keeping me from doing so for a bit.

My fear is that these servers will be even more populated than normal due to new content. Its possible that these servers will keep their restrictions 24 hours a day. I mean a guess I could set my alarm to 2 am in the hopes of creating a char at that time but it seems like too much trouble for just wanting to be on an active server. I've ruled out joining any other servers so I am a bit stubborn, but i still feel kind of helpless here, just waiting for my server of choice to become available. I am stubborn about it but it is kind of bothersome considering I am paying for this time as well..

Anyone have any educated guesses as to what a good time would be to spam update the server selection screen in the hopes of creating a char???

If you want to create a char on a populated NA server, I suggest you make a character at around 6am-11am EST.Only reason why the servers got locked much earlier today was due to the large amounts of players rushing to get houses and first to grab rogue, but it should all be normal the next day. I can't say much about EU servers, but I'd imagine the same time in your time zone

Saigwa is correct. Excalibur usually opens its gates around 3AM.

Well, even if they only eliminate the people who "don't care that much" and can't be bothered, it's a small gesture to control population on the over-populated servers. People who really, really insist on going to one server in particular (perhaps because their friends are there or whatever) can still have a way.
