Hi ! Im a new player here, currently residing in Australia.
So Im wondering on which World/Server would suit me best?
Also is it possible for me to go to NA region world? Or am I restricted to only the EU server?

PS. What's the meaning of Legacy on some of the server?

I made it Black mage level 32 and in a super small FC on a shard in NA but there is only like 3 people active in guild and the server seems dead so i will probably switch and start again so i would like to know myself ! and i am American in Tennessee if that helps and plan on trying out the rouge class but remember i am a true nooblet but everyone starts some where .

Would need more information on what you are looking for to give server recomendations.
You can play on any server you want, assuming you can get a character into it.
"Legacy" servers are those that hosted the characters imported from 1.0, they were more developed from the start economy/community wise, but that difference has probably dissapated at this point. It may be harder to join groups on legacy servers as they tend to be more segregated.

A Legacy server is a server that's been in use since 1.0 (3+ years). These servers are established and populated, but most people have a number of jobs leveled so it might not be the easiest for new players to adapt to. They do, however, tend to have active endgame communities. All other servers were establish either at ARR/2.0's launch or since then. You can join any world regardless of region. The EU servers and the NA servers are currently located in the same data center in Montreal, Canada. SE is in the process of spinning of the EU servers into there own data center in Europe, but that was just announced last weekend, so I would expect for that to be at least six months (or longer) from happening. I've heard a lot of the Oceanic community plays on Tonberry and Masamune (Legacy) on the JPN data center for better ping. It kinda depends on what is your priority, games responsiveness or a large English speaking community.

If you do decided to roll on a Legacy server be aware there was a patch today so its likely that the Legacy/higher population servers will be locked for character creation for a few days. If the server has many characters logged in, they will shut that server down for new characters until some people log out.

Well I am on Hyperion server. I have a Free Company(small one at that called The Dark Wardens) Even though it is usually family and friends that log on it would be great to have more people in the FC, sadly most people are already in there own lol

There's a number of latency problems many Aussie players experience when connecting to the NA/EU servers. I know a number of Aussie players play on them regardless, but a few others have also established English communities on JP servers. I know one such group on Ridil you might try if the lag is a big issue for you.

Didn't know that some Aussies pick the JP servers! Worth to have a look.
But yeah. Ideally, I'm looking for an active, populated server with superb community, so that I can get a good experience of the game from early game until the end game.
I still haven't decide yet which world suits me best, so I'll just stroll around. ^^

the JP server Tonberry is the unofficial oceanic server. I made an alt on that server to check it out and it seems like the server is 50% english and 50% japanese, anyways lots of english speakers and Aussies on Tonberry you should check it out.

Yep. I searched around the forum and thinking of either Tonberry or Masamune to switch into. Still unsure at the moment, but as for the timezone, these 2 Worlds probably will suit me best. I'm stuck at Zodiark at the moment, I will just enjoy my moment there and levelling.

im aussie n i play on odin (EU) lag isnt a big issue for me though rarely have unplayable lag spikes xD
