    About those desynthesis books...

I may be missing something here... but why would anyone want a book that DELEVELS your desynthesis? It's like a book that de-levels your class back to lvl 1...

Can someone explain me why someone would want to de-level their synthesis? hah

There's a limit to how far you can push your total desynthesis. Unlike class levels, you can't take every desynthesis to 100.

And unfortunately, the systems for what happens once you push your total desynth over 300 are finicky - and losing even 0.5 of a desynth you've maxed can take a lot of time and effort to restore. So for players who decide to swap desynths or just screwed up and tried to level multiple before realising the limitations, these books are a godsend.

Probably for people who put a lot of points in one desynthisis class, and either changed their mind or found out it didn't offer what they wanted. Deleving would be faster than putting a lot of effort into a different class and hoping the one you didn't like would be lowered instead of others you did like.

Cause people asked for it. The total desynth level cap being primary reason.

I am not near desynthesis cap. I have two classes in the upper eighties and nineties, and a smattering in other classes. So, I have no experience as to what happens when you try to push a craft over the 300 limit. So, I'd like to ask, what precisely happens?

It was my belief that, when you are at 300, if you earn 0.5 in a craft, it will subtract 0.5 from another craft, chosen at random. I know already that you can protect a craft from being randomly selected by doing a desynth in that craft, and that will protect you from four desynths (for example, desynth a fish, and Culinarian is protected for the next four synths in other classes).

So, even if your desynth levels are spread across a bunch of different crafts, just protect the ones you want to keep, and the 0.5 should be removed from crafts you don't care about. If that is what happens, I really don't see the point at all in having a book to reset your craft. If you don't care about the points you have in a craft, just level up the ones you do care about and those points will eventually disappear... Is that not how it works?

On this note, when are we getting the ability to lock/protect a chosen desynth from deleveling that they promised us ages ago?

    EDIT found the post:

In the future we will be looking into adding a feature that will allow you to lock your desynthesis skills to ensure that they are not lowered when raising another. However, we just wanted to let you know that there is actually a way to prevent the lowering of skills you don’t want to lower, but we’d like for players to experiment and find out how to do it.

Well, SE always has a round about way of doing things... can't just let us lock something in place so we don't worry about losing points... also, you can lose points before you cap at 300...

I'm hoping for this in one of the sub patches, before we get 2.5 (or 3.0). At the very least, a general ETA would be nice.

However, I think the bigger mystery is why the books are so expensive, for just a simple convenience.
