"Hurry Up and Wait!" - A Timelocked Content Rambling

    Heya!

So FATEs. For Quests. They can be really annoying, right?

Well, I've spent at least five hours worth of time waiting for FATEs to spawn for my Animus books in the past two days, doing nothing but multitasking, playing Pokemon, Animal Crossing, and the like on my 3DS to kill time, when I could be doing other things.

What I could be doing instead, why it's not very effective, and what can be done about it:

Mining/Logging up shards and crystals, Fishing, Crafting

Why it's not effective: To switch to a DoW/DoM job outside of a Sanctuary causes all abilities to be put on job change cooldown, effectively making me worthless for a good minute or so, which can impact my performance in a FATE I need a Gold rank to get credit.

What can be done: Remove job change cooldowns from all jobs and just keep it so jobs cannot be switched in instanced content or during combat.

    Leveling my Chocobo on enemies

Why it's not effective: A Chocobo's XP bar is significantly larger than any player. Currently, at Rank 8, the XP needed for a Chocobo to get to Rank 9 is 940,000. The assumed XP it would take for a player to get from 50 to 51 (according to the XP meter at Level 50) is 562,000, which is a little over half.

What can be done: Cut Chocobo XP requirements in half or at least by 25% or increase XP awarded by defeating enemies by double.

    Fight enemies on Animus Books

Why it's not effective: I can only do that so much before all of the enemies I need have been defeated, and even then, I still have to wait a good hour or two before the FATE finally spawns.

What can be done: Increase the number of Animus Books we can carry at the same time and allow us to work on multiple books simultaneously.

This is ultimately just one huge pointless annoyance ramble, but it would be nice if some of these features could be looked at.

I usually fish while I wait for the FATEs, and have my map up on the side of my screen. When the fate pops, I immediately switch classes, then by the time I get there (because there's not always a fishing hole right on top of the spawn point) I can fight. Haven't had a problem yet.

And there is no reason this can't be done. They said in the live letter the reason for this is to prevent people from resetting their cooldowns, but the servers keep track of your cooldowns even if they don't belong to your active job anymore. Activate a CD on job 1 in housing ward/city, change to job 2 and change back, you'll see the ability is still on CD, so their reason behind this is false.

I think what they meant is so you cant use all of your abilities on 1 job, switch, and then you have all the abilities for that job up and ready to go immediately.

Like hallowed ground for instance, and benediction.

Well that's not possible anyway as you can't change jobs mid-combat or during instanced content.

Right, but thats what would happen if they let you switch and everything was ready to go.

As it is, all weapon skills only take 30 seconds to go off CD.

For instance, you get real low hp wise on PLD and pop Hallowed Ground. After the mob dies, your hp is still low, but you need to have full hp to continue w/e it was you are doing. So while still out of combat, you switch to WHM, pop Benediction, then switch back to PLD and continue on your way.

Would that be really that horrible? I mean, it saves you like...15 seconds of waiting. Sorry, but I can't see this argument proving anything. As you said: "It's only 15 seconds anyway"

On the current skill sets, there may not be too big of an issue but it maybe an issue with skills yet to come with classes that have yet to come.

No, I'm not talking about weaponskills, I'm talking abilities.

You could burn through all your CD's on BRD, switch to DRG, burn those, switch again, burn those.

Its easily exploitable, which is why they don't have this option in the first place.

And sure, it doesn't work in instances or combat, but still.

No reason to change what we have now outside of allowed for camps to act like cities do and allow free changing.
