2.4 Crafting - Grim as predicted

Well, as predicted, the requirements are higher than ever.

To unlock (just to unlock) the 2.4 crafting gear for all the DoH:

-You'll need to HQ 3 of the 3-star version of the 2.3 mats. (e.g.Intricate Silver Brocade)
-The difficulty is 801 (pretty much double cashmere cloth despite both being 3 stars.)
-You need 2 Field III for each item, you need 3 items so 6 Field III. 48 Field III to craft all the materials to unlock, ASSUMING you HQ every craft and not botch a single one. In my server that's 14 million odd gil just to unlock everything, assuming everything goes well. There are other mats costs too.
-Artisan secondary weapons can be HQ'd, and with everyone's grim predictions, they can be melded.

Crafting the actual artisan gear is another thing but that ain't no cakewalk either.

I really didn't mind the 3 star requirements cause that was just a time grind, 4 stars though. I'm probably gonna still try to cap all these crafting classes, just giving people out there some of the things they're gonna see.

Well no probllem on the field III I got those regular from the artisans's glasses. The hq 3 star, guess we'll see haven't really done any of those so I geared my BSM fully/ Supra also, cp 380 with food, mainly because it makes most of the artisans off hand tools

This isnt any surprise to me.

SE has pretty much tuned crafting (and lots of other content) to be suitable only for the richest players in the game.

I've been an endgame crafter in every MMO I've played until this one..... SE really ruined crafting for me in FFXIV.

I'll finish getting BSM and ARM to 50 since I'm almost there now, but once I do, I'm done with crafting in this game.... forever.

I'm pretty sure the crafting content is designed so that most cannot achieve everything by tomorrow. Of course, there are always going to be those players that have the resources to get it all, by tomorrow. It's up to the rest of us to profit off of these people.

Besides, if more people are lured away to the high end content, then that means less competition, and more potential buyers, for me. "Circle of Life," and all that.

Why do you say crafting is only for the richest players in the game?

    1. If you are a crafter with up to 3 star you can make good gil, if you have 3 star and you are not then you may want to look at what you can make so you can get a ROI.
    2. SE has made Fieldcraft 3 quite easy and cheap to obtain (although it can take some time to farm the mats (Rimless, and thick Glasses)). There are probably other options now but I have not looked.
    3. Materia can be made yourself and tier 3 materia (which is 1 less than tier 4 on stats) typically stayed very cheap.

If there is not a Return on investment then there is no benefit to making the new stuff.
However by having these gates. If you are determined enough (even if mostly broke) you can make good gil, and get the stuff you need for higher level crafting. There is only cost if you take the shortcut and use the marketboard route.

Hope that helps for all of those who are on the fence. I personally feel that reasonable gates give a level of accomplishment and there is enough incentive to get there.

To make it even easier there is new high crafting and gathering food in the existing master books to give you a larger boost.

I'm still far from there myself. However, personally I don't regard such requirements to unlock endgame crafting as a bad thing. It helps create a certain level of demand, and makes it a worthy investment to stick time into crafting. Rather than just having everybody being able to craft endgame produce at low cost.

That argument might hold water if end game crafted items were comparable to end game raiding gear thats faster/easier/cheaper to get for the most part.

SE said they want the best gear coming from raids, so nothing you craft will ever be comparable statwise to drops from dungeons, and no one will want it other than maybe for a glamour.

Well, for once it's actually not so bad.

110 gear is craftable as of this patch; which even though Soldiery is uncapped, buying it straight up makes a big difference in not having to get Second Coil drops/Syrcus Tower drops and then farm the soldiery for every single piece. It's still not the best but for the moment crafting is actually in at least a half decent spot - or at least better than it has been previous.

This. Pentamelded i90 was very good when people were still progressing 2nd coil and there were even a few pieces that were straight better than 110. Pre 2.4 the Dragoon BiS headpiece was pentamelded i90, ruby accs were BiS for tanks until yesterday. I am pretty sure it will be a similar story in 2.4. Pentamelded hq is just that much better than same ilvl dungeon/token/raid gear.

Not interested in crafting end game gear, I make money with it, lots of it. You'd be surprised at how much crafting you can do for alot of other items in the game. But that would take time and ambition and since things don't get handed too you its meh I ain't going to do that....
