Someone please explain this to me...

So I just started in Limsa Lominsa following the main storyline--suppose to go help Sisipu or w.e her name is hunt down some Sahagin...so I'm walking and walking, was quite a long walk and all of a sudden I see a LVL 76 CRAB!

WHAT?? I'm only level 6, doing the beginning of the story quest, WHY IS THERE A LVL 76 MOB THERE???

Did the devs have a monkey randomly smash buttons when doing mob placement? Seriously....lvl 10, 13, 15 near the camp and whatnot ok that's no problem, but a lvl 76 wtf

I tried avoiding it but...their aggro range was pretty wide and it hit me from behind....4k dmg to me....am I suppose to like, do leves and random grinding and put all my points in health just so I can walk pass them :/

Most games--through common sense--have a systematic way of placing mobs...you exit beginners town, you find lvl 1 mobs. You walk a bit further, you find lvl 2 and so on.

Why is that a prevalent gaming company like SE fails to acknowledge this?

Adjusting stats won't help when the mob is that high-level. As it stands right now, a high-level mob indicates you're going somewhere..."unnecessary". You should be able to find an alternate path.

That being said, I'm assuming mob placement is high on their revisions list so fret not.

Yes, it's pretty silly. There was probably some kind of method to their madness, but given the unfinished state that the game was released in, the reasoning isn't very clear to the players at all.

We discussed this a lot here:

It was the only path to be taken, had to go into like a small downhill since the area I needed to go to was enclosed in that area. Regardless if I took the wrong way or not though, a lvl 76 mob should not be nowhere near the beginning town.

    Couple things:

    1) Unless something has changed, you don't need to go into that lower area with all the high level mobs. There are land bridges above that will allow you to cross to the South without having to run down into the area with those high level mobs. You just have to look at your map to figure out the path to where you need to go.

    2) There are threads on the boards where players complain because there aren't more of these random, high level mobs around. They want traveling to be more dangerous. I agree with you that those random high level mobs that aggro can be really frustrating. But just so you know, there are people who want the opposite. It seems like no matter what SE does, someone is going to complain.

Your Lalafell friend from Fisherman's Bottom will have shown you the safe way to travel the first time you went there. See if you can retrace your steps.

Regarding overleveled mobs, it's fine the way it is. What they need though, is to place NPC near the entrance to the mini-zone with very high level mobs, who will talk in white chat like the Battlewarden warning players about *insert ferocious mobs here*.

Or players could just actually look where they're going instead.

Well, I could and have in many replies, gone all out and expressed my opinions, but this time I'll keep it simple. For the lack of better words, I believe the initial development teams (including the Project Leads) we a bunch of inexperienced ... well... monkeys, or humans with the intellect of monkeys. This game brought much shame to the name of Square Enix as they've always been known to be a very professional company that employs highly skilled developers. I'm not sure what happened with FFXIV, but something went terribly wrong. Maybe they got the initial crew for an incredibly cheap price (hopefully anyway, since it must be costing a lot to re-write many core systems).

Anyway, I would watch for the game to constantly continue to improve as SE has way too much at stake (their name) to let this game die out as a flop in history.

Hang in there, better times ahead.
