help about retainers

I'm new to XIV and mmo's in general; just wandering about retainers- can you only have 2 total or is there a way to get more? (I have already figured out that i'm a pack rat) but would still like to find out.

You can have up to 4 but you have to pay for the 3rd and 4th on mogstation. I think they are each $2/month.

if ur a hoarder n like to keep all kind of materials when leveling crafters then the other 2 retainers are a must :P

i changed all mine to botanist n miner so i can collect 240 shards every 40mins lol :P

One thing you can do is if your paying for a full sub $15 but only plan on having one character on the same server. You can drop down to the standard sub $13 and use the $2 dollars you save to pay for a third retainer, this way you can have 3 retainers and just keep the sub price at $15 a month.
