Express (trusted) login, can we have it?

So in honor of the 24 hour maintenance, I dusted off my Destiny disc & slid it into my PS4. Pressed the X button, selected my character & was suddenly playing my level 2 warlock. No user names, no passwords... didn't have to unlock my iphone, find the software token app, open it up... didn't have to enter a six digit one-time password with a controller & onscreen keyboard... It felt like the future.

If Destiny can log me in with very little input, there's really no reason the same can't be done with with FFXIV.

For those who want it, it would be great if we had an express login or trusted platform option. I'm sure there are many others like me, who are the sole user of a PS4 or PC version of this game. I don't have a child or younger sibling who would accidentally or deliberately delete my game or character.

I am the only one who uses my ps4 & PC version. I have one character on one server. I want to pick up my controller & just play, like I did today with Destiny. Like I have done with other PS3 online games in the past.

It's not really about being the only user, or worrying someone will accidentally delete your character, it's about keeping your information safe. Unlike destiny, FF14 is a p2p game, it has your payment information on file, which needs more protection. On top of that, unlike destiny again, FF14 has an RMT community always looking to steal people's accounts for their items and gil that they can sell for actual cash.

Personally, I don't mind taking an extra minute tops to make extra sure my CC info and character have strong protection.

No, you see there are plenty of reasons, it's just that you can't/didn't think of them.

I'm all for ease of access and making things more streamlined, but not when it might/would have a negative effect because of it.

There is no exchange of credit card account information when I log in to FFXIV on my PS4. Also unless an RMT "hacker" physically stole my PS4, there is no way they could access my game character.

It takes literally 10 seconds to input your password and One-Time code into the Launcher, for the sake of extra security there's really no reason why it SHOULD be done with FFXIV.

Your character and payment information aren't stored on your ps4. All that information is stored on SE's servers. All they need is your log in information and then they can log into your account from any PC or PS3/4 on the planet.

No, but they can get the password and account name by hacking your PS4, then get your account, take all your items/gils, use your characters to advertise for their gold sells and then you get perma banned.

You can't just "hack" a PS4 to steal info, the only possible way someone could do that was if they were piggybacking off your Wifi and tracking outgoing packets sent to the PSN/SEN servers and decrypt your login information from those packets, but even that is a 1/10000000000 chance of happening :P

The reason you are able to login to Destiny without entering a username or password is because Destiny relies exclusively on console platform logins for user authentication and player identity, which is why the name shown above your Guardian is your name on PlayStation®Network or Xbox LIVE. Furthermore, there is no PC version of Destiny.

On the PlayStation console family, Final Fantasy XIV uses your PSN℠ login in addition to your Square Enix username, so it is possible to do a similar login method. However, a large number of FFXIV players are on PC, and unlike game consoles, PC clients are frequently infected with malware and there is no method to adequately secure saved credentials on a PC client.

Allowing faster login for players who are using a console does not benefit every player and could create bigger problems for Square Enix if such a system were to be misused.

I have also wanted a feature like this, but on second thought I can see how this would be tricky.
