Would this be enough?
TRIPLE TRIAD YES PLEASE.
Just like in FF8 where you can run around and challenge NPCs.
Let me:Let there be two types of PvP matches just like in online mode in Street Fighter 4: Normal Match: which is like a friendly game, and Ranked Match, which lets people battle for rank points.
- learn "Monster Card" so I can farm cards.
- put an icon above my head that says I want to take on all challengers.
- observe a match in progress.
- Create a server wide leaderboard to see who is the best card master
- Hold tournaments for cool prizes.
- Let participants of matches bet (items, gil, cards, etc) over the outcome of the match.
- Put in a whole crapload of cards, and watch the OCD playerbase swarm in.
Keep the rules SIMPLE yet allow for high level play. Triple Triad was good at this. Tetra Master was a clusterfark of confusing hexadecimel letters and numbers.
This would add in solo content, as well as PvP content at the same time, give people more things to do, and add loads of entertainment value to this game.
Part of the excitement would be to venture out to the boonies and find NPC who have rare cards and try to beat them.
100k new subscriptions guaranteed.Triple Triad could also be a decent gil sink.
Have card shops in all 3 cities. Each shop sells starter packs and booster packs that feature NPCs and monsters from that region.
Starter Pack 1: 5,000 gil - Contains 10 random low level cards, and one random medium level card.
Booster Pack 1: 50,000 gil - Contains 5 random low to medium-high level cards.
Booster Pack 2: 150,000 gil - Contains 5 random medium to medium-high level cards, with a chance for 1-2 of them being high level cards.
The best cards have to be "Monster Carded" from high rank mobs, or won from a high rank NPC, or as tournament prizes.I'd like something new. We're long overdue for a new card game in the Final Fantasy series.
I'd like to see monsters, NPCs & Other Players drop Cards that go into your Card Collection (separate space, so it doesn't take up inventory).
As with Tetra Master, i would like cards to level up the more we use them, along with elemental/physical properties & weaknesses.[With] other games where you get "Titles" for killing a mob a certain amount of times, in FFXIV perhaps you could just receive a certain mob-type's card?
Example:
0/100 [Spriggans]
100/100 [This one type of Coblyn] - You recieve This Coblyn's Card
34/100 [Another type of Coblyn]
12/100 [Peist]
100/100 [Foot-soldiers] - You receive the Footsoldier card.
And for really really difficult monsters, you would have to kill them 10 times instead of 100, but 10 is still enough for it to be difficult to get!
For anyone who doesn't know, this is what Triple Triad was like:
http://www.qj.net/psp/homebrew-games...d-for-psp.html
Think for a game like FFXIV, where the Leves look like cards, the devs could certainly get pretty creative with the monster cards you recieve.More ideas to keep things interesting...
Tournaments!
Official:
Official, city-state sanctioned tournaments occur every 8 (or 6) days — so every week it starts on a new day. The tournament also rotates between Gridania, Limsa and Ul'dah.
Each tournament has one main match and various smaller matches. The matches have different rules which could vary from your old favorites from TT or even something as simple as an Ul'dah tournament requiring each player to have a Thanalan Regional card in their playing deck. Matches would have preferred rank ranges: 1-10, 11-30, 31-50.
Entry requires a modest entrance fee — IOUs not excepted — and the prizes involve a piece of the pot, cards, items or tournament points.
Unofficial:
Unofficial tournaments don't occur as often (twice a month) and their location is subject to change. Varying from a back alley in one of the cities to some out of the way place out in Eorzea. But the potential rewards make up for the inconvenience.
One of the NPCs in the Pugilist guild knows the location of the next tournament and the secret to getting in, but information is never free...
Once you finagle Tiny's Triple Triad Tournament NPC linkpearl out of him, every week it'll flash and lets you know where the tournament is being held and any other pertinent facts. Here are few ideas to add to yours : (card vendor npc) - all actions below are interaction with npc.
- card can be sold at card vendor npc for gil
- combination of cards (or more of same card) can be exchanged for crafting material (no gear! but material)
- some type of cards can be transfer into shards or crystal
- card vendor npc sells basic lvl 1-10 cards for gil
Play with npc
- you could be able to play with some npcs in around the world or in the cities
- some of them would have expensive cards, but hard to get. Skilled players.
Game win
- you can take up one card from the enemy
Game lose
- enemy takes your card
Another
- there is tournament held in any of big cities, where special rules will be implented
(example with lose you lose more than one card, etc.) players can interact here.
Interaction
- you can play with any other player, you can lose or get card
methods to get a card
- monster drop
- nm drop
- play with npc
- buy basic cards at npc card vendor
- via gathering (but this sounds weird and I dont like it personally - only if % was really low)
- leve reward
- quest rewardI blame you all for getting Triple Triad stuck in my head. And I blame the late hour for this...
[SIZE="5"]Rules[/SIZE]
* Triple Triad - it's a new, non-combative class! Equip a deck of cards and you're ready to play. Similar to how it worked in FF8 with the four numbers in the upper left hand corner (ranks) depicting the card's strength. 1 is the lowest strength while A is the highest. (A comes right after 9).
Sample card:
-------
4 6
-----
7 5
-------
* At the start of a match, you pick 5 cards from your deck to use in the match and your opponent picks 5 cards from his deck. You can't see what cards your opponent has chosen and vice versa.
* All cards have an optimal rank; using one too far above your level reduces the effectiveness of the card. (The ranks decrease depending on the level difference; lower numbers do not decrease as much as higher numbers.)
Cards are split between the following types:
- Regional cards (landmarks, cities, camps, etc.)
- Monster cards
- Harvesting Cards
- Crafting Cards
- whatever else
1) Regional cards are stronger if played in that region. You get a chance to win these cards from guards in the various regions/camps.
2) Monster cards can be either bought from a vendor (like starter packs -- your basic, most common cards), earned by killing monster (random, uncommon drop) or through various quests. Getting a monster card is only half of the fun though! Switch to a combat class and kill monsters whose card you hold to imbue their essence into that card, making it slightly stronger. Kill enough monsters and maybe something special will happen to your card! o.O
Don't forget, certain monsters intimidate others. Always try to play a stronger monster against a weaker one.
All cards have a starting level and a maximum level. A weak Coblyn card would never reach A rank (the highest strength) from killing thousands of Coblyns, but its status can be improve. (One or two of the ranks will randomly increase by one after imbued enough.) Cards are powered up by various tasks. Monster cards by killing monster, crafting cards by crafting, regional cards by completing leves in that region, etc.
Cards either have no element associated with them, a single element or multiple ones allowing for another level of interaction between the cards. Always play a stronger element against a weaker one.
Every five Triple Triad levels or so you get an ability that you can equip with a combat class that improves the rate of imbuing for certain monster types (seedkin, cloudkin, etc.) or increases the drop rate based on of a monster type. Crafters and Harvesters can trade in Guild Mark points for similar abilities.
To gain class experience you play, play, play! With other players and NPCs. Plenty of bored guards standing around with not much else to do. Maybe players too... hmmmm. Games can be played for just fun, money or ::gasp:: each other's cards.
And like any other class, every few levels gets you new skills. Oh boy! Off the top of my head:
- Well-rounded -- A temporary boost to the lowest value of the card about to be played while slightly reducing the highest rank on the card. Effect lasts one to two turns.
- Tipsy - Temporarily turn the rank of a card on its side, rotating every value to the right by one. Effect lasts one to two turns.
- Null and Void - Temporarily remove all the elements from a card.
- No More Secrets - All cards are uncovered, yours and your opponents.
Be careful when playing higher level players. They're tricky! Want to steal all your cards.
Perfect I will add that all to the OP in my new thread.
OMG ingame triple triad card collecting game, this would on its own make me play the game again. Imagine if you could play vs other players in-game to pass the time while waiting for guild event to start or something. Maybe they could link it in with Pve and an ingame bestiary. For example when you kill 100 of a certain type of mob you unlock its card. This game needs something addictive like this.
Shame they will NEVER add anytihng like this.
Im also agreeing with the OP. All they seem to do is keep changing things and changing the things that were changed and then changing them again. Its now almost 1 year since release and they still havent added hardly any new stuff that held my attention for more than a few days.
Im all for making the game better with these changes. But at some point it has to stop and you gotta add decent content. How many fking times are they going to change the targeting system they have been messing with it for the past 6 months now.
When I go out to kill stuff on my archer I want a reason (other than exp) to be killing these mobs, when I have these mini tasks to do im enjoying the game far more and motivated to keep going. Getting titles for killing certain number of that mob for example. Or learning more about a mob the more you kill it (ingame bestiary).
There lodestone achievment thing for our characters is one of my favorite parts of the game and its a good start for players like me that like this sort of thing but its not enough. It needs to be ingame also, with a listing of all the achievments you can get and how close you are to getting them.

I was watching some old game stuff and came across Dragon Quest (Dragon Warrior) and then it hit me...
Our YoshiP.... Yoshida Naoki.... Joined Square Enix in 2004. He previously worked on the Dragon Quest Monster Battle Road games.
Now for those of you that don't know that game... since it's only out in Japan... and when I went to visit relatives... that game is FUN... it's another card game where you put the card into a arcade machine and you fight with your characters from your cards...
They finally made a Wii version for it (JP) here's the video for it...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Esez2...1&feature=fvwp
Actual arcade commercial.

Someone actually playing the arcade.

Triple triad is cool by itself... but what if the cards went into battle mode like this...?
When I was in Japan was playing this non stop... I need to get the Wii version... if I only had the money lolol

The thing that makes Triple Triad viable with what they're trying to do with FFXIV is the fact that it can get pretty dicey once you start playing, but it has a relatively low barrier for entry, so something akin to that system might be a bit too far out there.
Although I'm sure Yoshida could apply some of the know how he gained working on the game into Triple Triad in FFXIV!
Haha this gave me a wierd idea for blue Mage. Like give em scan and when using scan you get a chance to get a monster card for triple triad as well as combat. Idk ._. I like the idea. A card based blue Mage would be kinda sweet
Boohyaaaa!!
