    Dark Knight: No Base Class?

Is this even possible in terms of how the game works right now? It would mean that they would either have to change absolutely everything about the class/job system or it means that Dark Knight is actually a class and not a job. In other words, Dark Knight won't be a job crystal and will instead be a class which we have to level up. This raises the question of cross-class skills and whether or not Dark Knight is able to pull from all of them.

There's a small chance it'll pull from Gladiator and, like SMN/SCH, have different job-specific drops.
There's a large chance they'll add a base class somewhere down the line because the small chance listed above is stupid. Dark Knight confirmed =/= Dark Knight is coming without anything else attached to it. So expect your new tank class' guild in Gridania sometime.

It was specifically noted on the DRK announcement that it will have no base class.

To the OP, classes do not carry standard FF titles - those are reserved for jobs. Also, it is noted that DRK has no base class, which insinuates that it is a job.

Dark Knight doesn't come until 3.0 with the Heavensward expansion anyway. There are plenty of changes that could happen at that point. There has been talk of the class/job system being revised. I don't think there's any sense in over-thinking how it would work in the current state of the game when we don't even know for sure what the game will be like when DRK is released.

Dark Knight is pretty much a dark version of PLD tank. I would guess it would pull spell from WAR and BLM or even some from PLD.

I could really mean that they may just delete the idea of class system. I know people was saying this and they where like how they would do SMN/SCH? i would say it's pretty simple it's a expansion they can redo the full job/class system if they want.

I really hope they don't because i was looking forward too seeing THM having more jobs. Same with PUG maybe becoming a PUP or you could still do MNK. But i guess we have to wait for more information about this later.

It's most likely indication that they are testing the waters with eliminating the class system with all jobs introduced after the 3.0 expansion. Classes served their purpose to this point, but continuing with them will put severe limits on future jobs and introduce unneeded development time, Pure jobs from 1 to 60+ is the way to go now.

It is ok guys, this is healthy for the world, I mean if we had 1 or 2 straight job classes that allows 10 cross class abilities. RELAX, not every class needs to be in the cookie cutter pan. Beside Dark Knight looks visual closed to Dragoon, in history and in a weird way I trust they will have it fully balance in 2015 spring

The Class/Job combo was never ment to exist.

In 1.0 there were classes only from 1-50. As you know they had all these weird names and fans wanted the classic naming/theme so bad.
Scraping the whole class system and making a new one would take too much time and manpower. So they opted to add an advanced class (called job here). This advanced class allowed them to make the changes they need.

Having an advanced class system exists in many MMOs but FFXIV was not built around that.

IMO having a base class is unnecessary as it gives unneeded complexity for the devs and serve no real purpose for the players.

I hope they get rid of this in 3.0 and just have job from 1 to 60.

It'd be a shame if they decided to do away with the class/job system. I found it enjoyable to have a goal to work towards. It doesn't have to have a 'real purpose' beyond being a bump in the road and perhaps introducing players to other classes/play-styles they might otherwise have ignored. I would never have become a healer if I hadn't found Conjurors to be surprisingly relaxing on my grind to Paladin.
