Can you move the NA servers from Canada to the US?

Since you guys are moving the EU servers to Europe how about moving the NA servers out of Canada and to the US. There are many US players that experience bad lag due to the servers being in Canada.

There is often a huge routing problem caused by going through level 3 the route to Canada is not always stable and packet loss often happens. Sometimes the game gets rubberbanding lag. Making it impossible to do endgame without dying a lot.

But then what happens to Canada? Wouldn't they experience the same thing? Perhaps just another server centre would be better.

I have this same issue with Level 3, and have mentioned it a few times. Personally I think the server is fine where it is, they just need to get rid of Level 3 and route it another way.

Level 3 is the issue, not server location. Only thing SE can do is ask them not to throttle FFXIV.

Level3 isn't "throttling" XIV traffic. Ports are getting over-saturated because the ISP's aren't revising their agreements fast enough to accommodate the heavy increases in traffic we've seen in the last year. When the congestion kicks up, several mechanics kick in to try to avoid congestion failure. Some are built into the transmission protocol itself (error-correction and flow control measures within TCP can slow a connection down when it detects signs of congestion and errata in the integrity checks), and the providers will have their own shaping policies that will prioritize delivery based on the type of data in the stream. Secure Financial data for instance will have high priority, while UDP traffic (a protocol heavily used in this game's predecessor) may get dropped further down the list.

There is lots of data out there demonstrating this problem. Much of it has been posted or linked to on these forums in the Tech Support section. You can find some good blog posts on it by googling this phrase:

    level3.net chicken

It's been an ongoing problem for over a decade now... and as more people leave traditional media sources and turn to internet streams, it's just going to get worse.

Isn't it your ISP the one routing your packets through Level 3?

Perhaps, perhaps not. Your ISP only routes it to a connecting network. The connecting network may route you through level 3 as well, out of your ISP's control. The thing is though, no matter where the servers are going to be located, people are going to remain screwed over. Simply depending on which side of the level 3 network they're resided.

Asking for the servers to be brought to your end of the level 3 network therefore is just about one of the most selfish demands to be made in this.

An insider network engineer explained to me that the level 3 provider in Montreal is either being paid by SE or our ISPs, or both, and that is the heart of the dilemma. Neither SE or the oligopoly ISPs want to admit to being the client of some discount level 3 provider.
