Doesn't matter what she is at this point. I'm sure when musketeers was originally supposed to be added 4 years ago it was intended to be a dps. But alot has changed since then. And Yoshi is already on record as saying the gun class isn't what people expect. Everyone expected it to be dps. Though I'm holding out hope it will be something like summoner and scholar with both a dps and healing role come from it.

Lololink and Anatha are both right, you're just coming at it from different angles. Lololink is looking at it from a lore perspective, Anatha is thinking of gameplay.

From a lore perspective, the Admiral is a Musketeer, but from a gameplay perspective she's nothing because she doesn't have a job and skills, traits like players do.

All that said...I don't think any of this has to do with what role the upcoming gun class will be

Pretty sure gunner will be DPS and an additional job will be revealed as the healer in the expansion between now and it's release. I could be wrong but I don't think I will be as I also think 3.0 will be 1 DPS, 1 healer and 1 tank with the tank confirmed as DRK right now. Will have to wait and see but I was right in my assumption about ninja being DPS and DRK being tank so while gunner type is almost a certainty at this stage I am very confidant it won't be the healing class.

I am also sure in future new jobs will be like doing with DRK in that they will not require entire new classes for it. It will be GLD becomes either PLD or DRK, Archer can become BRD or Gunner, Rogue can become Ninja or Samurai etc and so on in future. I believe that is the direction they are actually going in future from class/job perspective. It will not be a new class for every job, it will be two jobs for every class. Again I could be wrong but I think that is what is going to happen from 3.0 onwards.

If it's not a healer I'll be kind of sad. I LOVED my scoundrel in SW:TOR and gunner/agent reminds me of it. My raid leader already asked if I'd switch to agent if it was heals. :P

What type of role do you think Merlwyb would play in a PT? Does she resemble a healer to you? If she were a healer then they would have her healing people on the battlefield in her Anniversary short story.

There really isn't anything stopping them from having a Gun class that also heals.
Its not like a SCH bashes peoples heads with the book in order to heal.

Something like a Chemist Job off a gun toting class would work. Wont need to actually shoot bullets at people, lol.

books aren't meant to be weapons, guns are. weapons are meant to kill stuff. if gunner is healer, then gunner will be weak. if guns are weak, they are pointless. if guns are strong, heals will be weak, and if heals are weak, then you're not a healer...therefor heal-gunner=silly.
