THF?

So, having looked at Rogue abilities it basically looks like you get to play as a THF up to Lv.30 and then become a NIN.

I'm assuming with Rogue being the class that we'll see THF as a secondary job for the class sometime in the future. Any thoughts and do people even want THF? THF and NIN were both very good jobs in XI and different from each other.

They already said way back, rogue is thief. They said the reason they opted to change the name from thief to rogue is they felt a rogue's guild fit better than a thief's guild in the whole back story of it being some behind the scenes underground militia.

I get that but I know a few people who are disappointed that they don't actually get to have THF at 50. It just seems a little odd to tease you with it for 30 levels and then become what essentially looks like something very different.

Maybe it's just my XI brain exploding, my main was NIN in XI but I had a THF too. They both played quite differently so I guess that's where my confusion lies with how this is being implemented.

There isn't much of a functional place in FFXIV's world for mechanics like stealing and lockpicking. That's the real issue.

I mean as they explained it for lore sake. A band of thieves wouldn't be allowed to survive as a guild, and rogues are ex thieves that converted their skills to do good and learned martial art fighting styles.

That's their take on it sure it doesn't make sense but yes ROG is THF you literally get Mug as a skill sure it may seem as a teaser, but I think it's their way of shutting down everyones belief that there will in fact be a THF job later. Doesn't make sense now, ROG has THF skills and looks.

Different how exactly? Different from what it was in XI? Yes. But then no job in this game is the same as it's XI version. They are all very different. And so is NIN for that matter. But, as weird as it may seem for thf to be a base class, I just think back to FF1. It was the very first appearance of thf, and later in the game, it turned into NIN as an advanced job.
