Weird thought, but I wonder if Dark Knight, which does not have a base class, actually starts at level 1, or would it start from 30. If it starts at 1, does that mean the expansion areas have some very low level mobs for beginner players, or would new Dark Knights have to start from old v2.0 content in order to gain levels. Or, is level 1 of a Dark Knight not equivalent to level 1 of older classes/jobs, but rather on a different kind of levelling scale.

Depends on how they handle Dark Knight but most likely it may start out as lvl 1 so players can learn how Dark Knight works from the group up.

We don't want players starting out too high and missing things that they should know about Dark Knight gameplay style.

That would only leave them with drain type abilities, as any elemental offensive would most likely come from BLM sub-job (assuming we still have sub-skills). Since they are dodge/parry type, could be like: sacrifice X% HP for high damage/threat AoE and give a X% parry boost 10 seconds, after it ends regain x1.5 of the initial damage done as HP (or whatever number). Essentially thats just a drain, but leaves them hanging for a bit with the sacrifice. Either way I'm sure they can come up with sacrificial powers that tanks could use.

Even though it's been said they won't be a class, I really hope it goes through a similar progression as the 2.0 jobs. 1-30 starts you with one trainer, then gains skills for 30-60 somewhere else. And I also hope that the skills shown in the "Actions and Traits" menu (not under Job) can have a few cross classable skills, especially if it'll help WAR and PLD.

Just like any new job there will be a large rush for players to play it. Just like any new content. And just like after the initial rush people will move on to something else, the bad players will be weeded it out. Hell, just keep an eye on the NIN wave that will happen next week.

As for people assuming to play DRK as a DPS as they level, the moment they hit any sort of party content they'll have a rude awakening as they are required to fill the tank position in the party. As if leveling up with a party and unlocking skills won't be any indication that, "hey this skill has enimity attached to it...and this one...and this one". And just like any other job played in the party, people seem to have zero problem just kicking a bad player. So, I don't see anything changing at all.

This isn't going to be an isolated problem to DRK. It's already happening to other jobs.
