The Man With The Golden Gun: Gunner Speculation

I found it really interested that of all of the James Bond movies, Yoshida decided to mention one title in particular "The Man With The Golden Gun". If we're to follow a rational pattern, the title means something very specific. The last movie reference was to three Batman movies, two of which being Dark Knight and Dark Knight rises. Everyone understood what this meant easily, but The Man With The Golden Gun has given many people different ideas.

Agent is a popular idea, and an obvious one. There haven't been a lot of agents in Final Fantasy but they have existed (e.g. the Turks of FF7). Chemist was an interesting idea to me, arguing that the "golden" gun refers to the idea that Alchemy and gold are heavily referenced together in media, the only problem being that we already have an Alchemist.

My idea, however, is completely different. While I won't say this is likely, I still think it's plausible and I'd love it if it were to come to be, and so I'll lead into this idea of mine.

There is already a man with a golden gun in the Final Fantasy Universe.

There's evidence both supporting and contradicting this idea.
    + It's a golden gun
+ It's similar to Vincent Valentine's gun, a popular character
+ It's something people aren't likely to think of
+ The concept of the gun uses three different bullet shells to unleash powerful attacks (summoned creatures), and this concept is already about to exist in the game (i.e. Ninja)
+ Main character has interesting glass and they've been trying to develop interesting eye-wear recipes for a while.

    - It's kind of an over a decade year old obscure anime
    - We already have a summoner class
    - Yoshida made "Agent" like poses at the fan fest.
    - It's hard to determine what the name of the job would be called other than "Summoner", however Evoker would be a likely name.

I don't claim it's the truth, but I can't help but think of the possibility, and I'd like to know everyone's thoughts on the idea.

My idea of a job based on this concept would be another summoner type Job. It might seem redundant but for a while people have been complaining about Summoner, and I think this would be a nice tie-in for a Job to use Summons as a huge blast type of attack like they were used in FF3 - FF9.

Overall I think people want Blue Mage and now maybe Agent. I think Corsair is unlikely, but a lot of people are hoping for that though. Personally though, I'm hoping for a Magun Evoker Job.

I watched this series, it was pretty good. But I don't think it's gonna be the new class.. it just doesn't feel right

Something I also thought was interesting is that one of the new Primals is Bismarck, which hasn't been that prominent in Final Fantasy in the past, but it was featured in FFU.

Well thought out speculation, one I didn't think of myself, or would have thought anyone would connect this game to that series just from Yoshi's hints. I remember I found this lil' gem, possibly one of my favorite Animes of all time, when I played FFXI and always thought "Huh, that would be interesting in a game, to see summons fly out of your gun!"

Alas, I just don't see that happening, until maybe the Garleans find their own means of "summoning" and use "Magun" type weapons to do their summoning (that would be an interesting twist of events huh?) Still it does beg the question what Yoshi's hints meant and why that specific reference of that specific title was mentioned. Just my thoughts, I could see BLU being brought in only if they did it like FFX-2's BLU, with the bullet system of learning monsters abilities. Though Yoshi doesn't seem too keen on trying to implement BLU just from some of his earlier comments. It's still a mystery wrapped in an enigma to me personally, but I can't wait to see what this "Gun" or "Agent" job turns out to be!

    ...Dirt Gun???

It would be pretty cool if THAT was indeed the reference. But would the job come with the lore behind the Magun?

My guess: Shinra Agent type job (probably just called "Agent"). Emphasis was on "Man with the Golden GUN" because the job will carry a gun / pistol type weapon. I agree - might stand out - but they might be able to pull it off if the guns are along the line of allagan technology.

I'm still leaning towards "The Man with the Golden Gun" referring to the character, Scaramanga, being an assassin.

I feel we have a similar thing in ninja already. Anything is better than a job called "agent" though.

I certainly hope so, but I also don't think it's necessary to have a similar idea of a Job.

I'm happy for the praise (I think it's praise). And this is exactly what I've been thinking for a while now, and I've been wanting to see it in the game. I agree it isn't very likely but I'm really hoping.

Yes, lol it most certainly is praise, I personally would have never connected the two, and it's one of my favorite animes of all time! I'm usually way off when it comes to speculations on new classes/jobs/stuff added to MMO's. I usually lean to one extreme or the other, I guess it's going to either be too overpowered, or too underpowered and I'm usually wrong lol.
